Police have raided three football clubs as part of an investigation into alleged corruption in football.
Newcastle United is believed to be one of the clubs raided but the other clubs involved have yet to be named.
The operation is not connected to Lord Stevens' ongoing Quest inquiry into the Premiership and was "totally independent", police said.
Search warrants were executed on the club premises and two homes between 0730 and 0900 BST.
A police spokesman said: "We can confirm that search warrants were served at three football clubs and the homes of two individuals in connection with corruption in football and its impact on owners and shareholders."
A Northumbria Police spokesman said they were aware that "an operation" had been carried out by their London colleagues at St James' Park, the home of Newcastle United.

Wow, if Portsmouth were named, I wonder how many dodgy deals the wheeler dealer Harry Redknapp did? I'm not surprised over Newscastle since one of their staff was named on the Paronama investigation and was subsequently fired for his involvement.
Will need to see more information in the up-coming days.
Oh yeah I forgot about Big Sam's involvement or not being involved, since he sued the BBC. No wonder he was signed by Newscastle, that's was me being sceptical again.
Well for some reason Bolton are my second team, and I was annoyed when I heard that Big Sam was implied in the whole ordeal, now I can't really look at Big Sam the right way anymore. They wouldn't of added his name for absolutely no reason and unfortunately it can ruin someones credibility.
Well in the story Big Sam hasn't been mentioned yet but if he got dragged into it Bolton and then once he has moved to Newcastle they get raided, it kind of doesn't make him look that good.
