Hornets' Paul leaves game with ankle injuryAssociated Press

SEATTLE -- New Orleans Hornets star Chris Paul was carried off the floor Tuesday night against the SuperSonics in severe pain with a sprained right ankle.

Paul, last season's rookie of the year, turned the ankle while landing his foot onto the left foot of Seattle center Johan Petro in the open floor on a Hornets fast break with about 90 seconds left in the first quarter. Paul hopped through the lane and then collapsed beyond the baseline while screaming "Ohhh!" repeatedly and grabbing his ankle.

He then rolled around on his back in pain as play continued momentarily. Once play stopped, the entire Hornets roster and coaching staff rushed to surround Paul in a semicircle while trainers attended to him.

After a few moments on his back, Paul was carried directly into the nearby visitors' locker room by teammate Tyson Chandler. The Hornets announced Paul was "doubtful" to return to the game.

Paul entered as the Hornets' leader with 18.9 points and nine assists per game. He had 13 double-doubles on the season, five in his last seven games. He had six points and seven assists Tuesday.

He averaged 16.1 points and 7.8 assists while winning rookie of the year last season, then helped the United State to the bronze medal in the world championships in Japan before this season.

The Hornets were already missing three of their top six players to injuries: Bobby Jackson (cracked left rib), Peja Stojakovic (back surgery) and David West (right elbow).

That was actually the 1,001 post, but no hard feelings....sucks for the Hornets and Paul, Paul is a very good athlete and a key success to their team, with so many players out it really hurts their chances of even thinking of a playoffs...

Paul is a solid player on the Hornets, sucks to see him go down with a bad injury. He'll be tough to replace but hopefully he can have a quick recovery so they don't take a huge hit.

The injury is not as serious as it was first though, instead of the ankle being broken it's just a sprain and reports have said will miss between 2-4 games and that should be it...

Much better news for the Hornets though with all the injuries they already have, it will still be hard to compete for the playoffs...

Thoughts?

Wow, Hornets catch a break. This is huge considering he is a huge player for the Hornets and makes 'em a much bigger thread on the court. 2-4 Games isn't much and will hopefully be enough for his type of injury.

Paul had an MRI on Thursday and has a severely sprained ankle that will take a minimum of four weeks to heal, team spokesman Scott Hall said on Friday.

Paul injured the ankle when he stepped on the foot of Seattle's Johan Petro late in the first quarter of a game in Seattle on Tuesday.

Paul is the Hornets' leading scorer, averaging 18.4 points. He also leads the team in assists with 9.0 per game.

He is the fourth of the Hornets' top six players out with an injury.

Guard Peja Stojakovic is out for up to three months after back surgery, forward David West is out for up to two months after elbow surgery and key reserve Bobby Jackson will miss another two weeks while recovering from a cracked rib.

Jannero Pargo is expected to replace Paul as the team's starting point guard. In 28 games, the past two as a starter, Pargo is averaging 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 23.6 minutes.

Really sucks with NO, as they are pretty much left for dead as about 77% of the main scoring is injuried in West, Peja, Paul, & Jackson...
