MLS all-time scoring leader Kreis chosen by Toronto, traded back to Salt Lake (AP)

TORONTO (AP) -- Major League Soccer's all-time leading goal scorer Jason Kreis was selected by Toronto FC in Friday's MLS expansion draft, then traded back to Real Salt Lake for part of a player allocation.

Allocations generally are high-profile players from leagues outside the United States which MLS purchases through the international transfer market.

Kreis was one of 10 players chosen by Toronto, four of which were traded away before the end of the day.

Toronto manager Mo Johnston also selected Adrian Serioux from the MLS Cup champion Houston Dynamo, and then promptly sent the Toronto native along with a second-round pick in January's draft to FC Dallas for midfielder Ronnie O'Brien.

Also selected and traded away were Kansas City goalkeeper Will Hesmer and New York Red Bulls midfielder Danny O'Rourke, who were bundled together and sent to the Columbus Crew for another partial allocation.

Kreis, who has 108 goals in his 11-year MLS career and will turn 34 on Dec. 29, was the seventh player chosen by Toronto in the expansion draft. He scored 17 over the past two seasons for Real Salt Lake after spending nine seasons with Dallas.

Johnston, who said six of his choices were made with trades in mind, also selected Paulo Nagamura (Los Angeles Galaxy), Jose Cancela (New England Revolution), Nate Jaqua (Chicago Fire), Rod Dyachenko (D.C. United), Tim Regan (Chivas USA) and Ritchie Kotschau (Columbus).

Toronto FC was allowed to pick one player from each team. Each club was allowed to protect 11 players from its 28-man roster.

When the newcomers are finalized, they'll join midfielder Jim Brennan, who became Toronto FC's first player when he signed a multiyear deal with the club in September.

Johnston said he'll announce the signing of four Canadian international players next week.
