John Obi Mikel has made a grovelling apology to Jose Mourinho to save his Chelsea career from being terminated even before it has begun.
Mourinho has been so incensed by the player's errant behaviour that the club have reportedly considered offloading the midfielder just months after completing his protracted £16m transfer.
Mikel hasn't made a first-team appearance since being dismissed on his Premiership debut against Reading last month. However, it is the 19-year-old's appalling timekeeping and lax attitude in training that has enraged his manager.
Mikel has been fined on three separate occasions for turning up to training late and Mourinho is also believed to have strong reservations about his lifestyle outside of Stamford Bridge.
The Nigerian is surrounded by a large entourage of friends and 'advisors' and only recently moved out of Chelsea Village Hotel.
The situation is made all the more galling by the lengthy - and expensive - efforts it took to bring Mikel to west London. A year-long pursuit culminated in the club paying Manchester United a compensation fee of £12m and a further sum of £4m to his previous club, Lyn Oslo.
I find this quite hilarious. Clearly he believes his own hype and then some. I mean he clearly does not require this large entourage of friends and 'advisors'.
Looks like United dodged a bullet by not signing Mikel if he has this attitude. And I'd guess that £12m compensation will be of a lot more use than an arrogant teenager.

Maybe this will be the kick up the backside the guy needs. He's not now operating in a league where he's a star player, far from it, and he's at a club where (if he carries on behaving in that manner) they'll just kick him out and think nothing of it (£16m to Roman Abramovich is about 20pence to you and me!!).

Well...Why would you want a guy with an attitude like that at the club you support?!
And just for the facts...As much as I do enjoy hearing when Man Utd sign young talent...I didn't know enough about him to care that much that Utd had missed out on him. Especially when I heard we'd received £12m from Chelsea, which may be small change to them but I'm sure that it went a long way to increasing Fergie's transfer kitty...So he could splash the cash on an actual recognisable face.
