The Premiership big four are set for a bidding war for £7million-rated Southampton full-back Gareth Bale, according to reports.Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have been alerted after Saints chairman Michael Wilde revealed the club would have to sell in the January transfer window in order to sign new players.
Manager George Burley spent £7 million in the summer rebuilding his squad and Wilde told the Daily Mirror: "£7million is not a small sum for a club like ours. If we wanted to bring in anyone new in January it might depend on us having to offload players."
Bale has been watched on a number of occasions by Chelsea, United and Liverpool while Arsene Wenger is known to be a big fan of the 17 year-old left-back - who became Wales youngest ever player when he made his debut against Slovakia last month.

I haven't actually seen Bale play, but I've heard some great things about him and it would certainly seem like he has a great future in the game, so I wouldn't mind seeing him make the move to United. Though I believe due to their time together at the Saints, him and Theo are quite friendly so that could lure him to Arsenal I guess. But either way, from the look of this article, he'll be Premiership bound come January with perhaps a mini-bidding war for the youngster.

I guess the first right decision would be for him to stay a while longer with Southampton and get a bit more first-team experience, before jumping to the Premiership. Though I'd presume he'd be loaned out nearly immediately if he signed with one of the big four, so I guess that has the potential to work out quite well for him also.

I've seen him a few times for Wales and he looks a very promissing player. I think he'll cope with the premiership no problem. I've always tended to think he'll end up at Arsenal for some reason. But he really needs a manager like Sir Alex, who can protect him and nurture him so he realises his full potential. I have no doubts that come this time next year Bale will be playing in the Premiership. It'll be another boost for Welsh football to see a youngster make it in the Prem.
Hes a wing back (left i think) and Wenger has been watching and keeping tabs on him for a number of years now. He was roommates with Theo Walcott and they were best friends at Southampton. Arsenal have a quite good record with young talent as do Man Utd, so i see it between three clubs, Arsenal, Man Utd and Southampton. I dont think he will go to Liverpool or Chelsea. I would love to have him in our team as Backup and to push Clichy for starting spot.
