Liverpool were reduced to nine men as they suffered a fifth league defeat in 11 games after losing at Fulham.
Cottagers striker Bobby Zamora gave his side the lead against the run of play when he tapped in a Damien Duff cross.
Fernando Torres equalised with an 18-yard volley only for Erik Nevland to flick in a shot from close range to restore Fulham's lead.
Philipp Degen and Jamie Carragher were sent off late on for Liverpool before Clint Dempsey tapped in Fulham's third.
Chelsea cemented their place at the top of the Premier League with a second four-goal thumping of Bolton in a week.
The Blues created a glut of chances but had to wait until the 45th minute for Frank Lampard to score from the spot after Didier Drogba was brought down.
Jlloyd Samuel was sent off for the professional foul and Chelsea doubled their lead when Deco curled home.
Lampard hit the bar before Zat Knight bundled into his own net and Drogba rolled in a well-worked fourth.
Arsenal emphatically swept aside claims from Tottenham that they were ready to challenge the supremacy of their north London rivals with a convincing victory at the Emirates.
The game turned inside 11 seconds shortly before the interval as the Gunners struck twice to set up a victory that gave manager Arsene Wenger 1000 Premier League points since his arrival at the club in 1996.
It also ended any hopes Spurs may have harboured of ending a winless league sequence against Arsenal that now stretches back 20 games.
Boss Harry Redknapp would have been satisfied with how his side had coped with Arsenal's threat until they imploded spectacularly as half-time approached.
Dimitar Berbatov's second-half volley helped to set up a stuttering Manchester United win over Blackburn.
United's new look defence had few problems and after being twice denied early on, Berbatov flicked up Patrice Evra's skewed shot to score the opener.
Aruna Dindane scored a hat-trick as Portsmouth completed a memorable week with a superb display at Fratton Park.
Burnley increased the pressure on Hull City manager Phil Brown after the game turned on two controversial decisions.
Everton drew a line under their recent travails with a hard-fought draw against Aston Villa as both teams finished the match with 10 men.
Ten-man Sunderland came back from two goals down to earn a draw with West Ham, who also had a man sent off.
Jody Craddock scored two second-half goals to salvage a point for Wolves as their first Premier League derby with Staffordshire rivals Stoke ended 2-2.
Well what can I say? It's hard to win with 10 men but with 9 it's near impossible.
With discipline now a part of our long list of faults it's pretty clear that changes need to be made and fast.

I haven't seen the game so I don't know that, I have been serving customers for the best part of the day and even so, how is it an excuse to say that our discipline is poor?
3 red cards in 2 Prem games seems to scream that to me.
I wasn't confident today to begin with and not betting on them shows that, I bet on 6 Prem teams and Liverpool weren't one of them.

I was going to say, you were down by 2 before the red cards.
Not by 2. They were 2-1 down, but Dempsey scored when both Degen and Carragher had already been sent off.
Not sure if it's poor discipline as such. I'll have to watch tonight but you may be right because Carragher should have gone last weekend and it seems like he was sent off for a very similar offence here. Degen's red on the other hand was apparently very harsh.

I would like to point out that when everyone was saying City would break the top four this season at Arsenal's expense, I said Liverpool were the most likely after not only failing to strenghen in the summer, but actually weakened their team as well. Based on the first 10-11 games, I think I may be right. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
