Arsenal proved too strong for Liverpool as they beat the Reds in an absorbing Carling Cup fourth round tie.
Fran Merida thundered in an 18-yard shot to put Arsenal ahead.
Emiliano Insua equalised with a superb 25-yard dipping strike but Nicklas Bendtner shot into the roof of the net for what proved to be the winner.
Alberto Aquilani impressed after coming on for his Liverpool debut and felt he should have had a penalty when Philippe Senderos blocked his overhead shot.
Chelsea maintained their 100% home record this season with a comfortable win over Bolton in the fourth round of the Carling Cup.
Saloman Kalou gave the home side the lead, rising to head home an inswinging cross from Paulo Ferreira.
Florent Malouda scored the second, benefitting from a deflection off Bolton's Zat Knight before slotting in.
A low drive from Deco sealed the victory and a header from substitute Didier Drogba rounded it off in style.
Roque Santa Cruz headed his first goal for Manchester City as Mark Hughes's side thrashed Scunthorpe to reach the Carling Cup quarter-finals.
Stephen Ireland gave City the lead with a curling shot before Jonathan Forte slotted in an equaliser for the Iron.
Santa Cruz converted Pablo Zabaleta's cross before Joleon Lescott headed home a Shaun Wright-Phillips corner.
Carlos Tevez prodded in from a Vladimir Weiss pass and Michael Johnson sealed a resounding win with a 25-yard drive.
Well I did say that I expected nothing from the game and we got nothing from the game so it's no disappointment.
The main upside is, in the 15 or so minutes that Aquilani came on, I like what I saw.
