He got Argentina in the World Cup...but barely. I was wondering what you lot think of him. I think he was brought in more as a confidence booster, rather than a manager. I personally would drop him and find someone who is more seasoned than him. I don't think it would mess up the chemistry of the team, since the new manager would have a bit of time to work with the team. Would you drop him, or keep him?

He seems pretty bad. He was clearly only appointed as a name rather than a great coach, because there was no evidence to suggest he would be. Yes they qualified but as you say they came close to going out, and a nation with such an immense pool of talent to choose from, including some of the world's best, and THE world's best in Messi, should be doing a lot better than that. Some of Maradona's team selections have been ridiculous, and he seems to favour players that play in Argentina, which is just ridiculous. A lot of their players are playing for a top European club for a reason, that reason being that they're fucking good.
It may be an unpopular decision to sack him now but he seems fairly clueless tactically and he's far too hot headed too. The guy was threatening to quit a few days ago and there's always a chance he will do something stupid either before or during the tournament. Personally I would let him go because I can't see them being genuine contenders for the World Cup unless they bring in somebody with more tactical awareness and composure.

Maradona has to go if Argentina want to win the world cup, it's plain and simple. You say that it wouldn’t harm the team chemistry if he went, you’re right it wouldn’t because there is no team chemistry at the moment. Apart from last nights game the Argentina players looked clueless on the pitch. There was no direction from the manager, no tactics apart from one… give the ball to Messi and he will win us the game.
One of Maradonas big problems is that he runs on emotion, he doesn’t seem to be able to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. When emotion takes over he’s not able to think logically, and just starts to chop and change things ‘willy-nilly’.
For some reason he feels a loyalty to home based players, in recent squads he’s used the likes of 35-year-old Martin Palermo who had not played internationally for 10 years, and a 36-year-old defender Rolando Schiavi earning his first call-up both of whom play in the Argentinian league. Meanwhile he leaves out the likes of Walter Samuel and Milito, both of whom should be regulars for Argentina. With his constant chopping and changing it’s going to be interesting to see how he’s going to be able to select a squad of 23 players, after he’s reportedly used over 50 during his reign.
Also Maradona doesn’t hold morning training sessions, as he doesn’t like to get up early. WTF is that all about? It was reported this week that he didn’t get out of bed until 3pm, the week of one of Argentina’s most important matches in recent years. What’s he going to do during the world cup when Argentina have to play afternoon games? Turn up midway through the second half? That’s no way to run a football team, if there is a lack of leadership at the top, then it’s going to trickle down to the players. If they see he can’t be bothered, then they won’t be bothered.
One thing I will say though is that it’s not all Maradonas fault. Before he took over a year ago Argentina had only won 1 game in 7. So he didn’t exactly inherit a team of world beaters to begin with. They were very shaky in the defensive area, and are likely to be for the next few years. So while it’s not all Maradonas fault Argentina are in this predicament, he is a major factor behind it.
Have to agree that it was a bad appointment in the first place. Never should have happened. Really bad move by Argentina.
The thing is that the situation could work regardless of that if Maradona would give up some tactical control. Similar to the situation when Klinsmann was running the German NT. Delegate.
