I can see where you're coming from, but I’m of the opinion if there aren’t many car manufacturers involved, then the updates to engines and their quality aren’t going to be as good. Hell, they might choose not even produce the engines for the private teams.
Also with manufacturers such as BMW and possibly Toyota and Renault walking away from the sport, it doesn’t give the sport that sense of credibility to me. How can the premier motor racing event in the world operate without some of the big names in the car manufacturing industry involved?
I should correct myself, saying it would leave only Ferarri (Fiat) as the only car manufacturer. Mercedes have a large amount of shares in McLaren, so they technically are a car manufacturers team, but I still consider them a privately run team – due to their history.
I see what you mean but the manufacturers are still in there providing engines for all of the different teams and Renault do provide the engine for the Red Bull team meaning that the name value would still be in there even though they wouldn't have their own team.
The team name is the biggest thing for the team but you have to look at what is powering the team and another thing is that we don't know what engines the new teams are going to be using next year.

Renault have confirmed that Robert Kubica will join them for next season.
The Pole, 24, will replace two-time Ferrari-bound world champion Fernando Alonso, the team said on Wednesday.
"I am highly motivated and optimistic that we can be at the front of the grid next year and hopefully fighting for the world title," said Kubica.
"He is one of the most naturally talented drivers of his generation and it is great to have him next season," added Renault team principal Bob Bell.
Kubica finished third in the 2008 drivers' championship in a season that saw him clinch his and the team's first race win at the Canadian Grand Prix.
But the Pole sits 14th this season for struggling BMW Sauber, whose future is uncertain after BMW announced in July they would quit F1 at the end of the season.
Yep, it's now been confirmed.

Toyota say they have offered a contract to Kimi Raikkonen to drive for them next season.
"We don't play too many games," said Toyota motorsport president John Howett on the F1 team's negotiating position.
"We put on the table what we can afford and what we think is a serious offer in the current market," added Howett.
Reuters news agency reported that the management team of Raikkonen, who is being tipped for a return to former team McLaren, wanted more from Toyota.
The Finn, who is due to leave Ferrari in November, said he would only consider driving for a competitive team and that he could even walk away from the sport.
This will make way for Kimi who is obviously without a car for next year as it stands.

Brazilian veteran Rubens Barrichello and German rookie Nico Hulkenberg have been announced as Williams' new driver pairing for the 2010 Formula 1 season.
The duo come in for German driver Nico Rosberg, who is set to replace 37-year-old Barrichello at Brawn GP, and Japan's Kazuki Nakajima.
Hulkenberg, 22, was Williams' test and reserve driver this season.
Barrichello was third in this year's drivers' championship, with Brawn team-mate Jenson Button taking the title.
Barrichello was in contention for the championship until the penultimate race in Brazil and finished the season 18 points adrift of Button, and seven behind the runner-up, Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel.
I called Hulkenberg but didn't expect Rubens to go to Willams tbh.

Can't see Nakajima getting a drive next year, maybe a backup driver but not a starting place, he just seems rubbish.
Hopefully BMW will improve again next year too and Rubens challenging again for the title.
