During Swansea and Scunthorpe’s 2nd round Carling Cup tie the Jacks (Swansea) had 3 men sent off and another one injured (having used all 3 subs), which meant the Swans were reduced to six players.
Gary Monk was sent off for an alleged head-butt on Michael O'Connor. Gorka Pintado received his marching orders with a second yellow in the second half of extra time. Two minutes later, Angel Rangel followed for an alleged elbow on Matthew Sparrow.
After that, new signing Besian Idrizaj suffered a knee injury in the closing stages of extra time. The referee James Linington then informed Swansea manager Paulo Sousa that if Idrizaj did not return to the field then the match would have to be abandoned, as a team must field 7 or more players during a game.
Sosa accused Linington of forcing the player back on. The FA have backed the referees decision.
So what do you think? Should the referee have abandoned the game or was he right to insist Idrizaj return to the field for the remainder of the game? Or should he (as Sosa suggested) abandoned the game?
