... and the great British hope has gone out.
First match I properly watched this year, and it was a good one. Some magnificent tennis at times from Murray.
I love how the media built Murray up so much, that they thought Murray would defiantly be in the final. Now they have egg on their face. Roddick vs. Federer should be a good match. Federer should in it though.
Re: The Official Wimbledon 2009 Preview and Discussion Thread
Yeah Fed has lol. I can't see Roddick causing him any major problems. I think Murray probably would have caused him more, but then I fancied Roddick to beat Murray as Murray still seems incapable of beating the power game.
The press puts far too much pressure on Andy. They've had him in the final since before the tournament even began so it's just way too tough on him.
As for today's final, I'm hoping Serena wins as I prefer her for some reason. She just seems more interesting. I'm pretty sure Venus goes in as the favourite to win her 6th (?) Wimbledon title though.

I thought the Murray/Roddick match could have gone either way because Murray is such a good returner, but you just can't do anything with the Roddick serve a lot of the time. So many unreturned serves hit pretty much straight at him. It was a very good match though, but from what I've seen Hewitt/Roddick in the quarters is match of the tournament.
Would have been interesting to have seen Hewitt vs Murray. You think Hewitt would have got pwnt?

Re: The Official Wimbledon 2009 Preview and Discussion Thread
I think Murray would have beaten Hewitt comfortably enough. Maybe in four sets at most. Kindof why I wanted Hewitt to beat Roddick actually, as I always thought Roddick had the better chance of beating Murray.
To be fair to Murray, Roddick served sensationally yesterday. It's not often he gets that many first serves in, so what really could Murray do?
I heard commentators saying it's one of, if not thee, best performance Roddick has ever put in at Wimbledon before, so that's what he was up against.

Yeah he got a ridiculous amount of first serves in, but it wasn't all about his serve. I agree with the commentators, its probably the best I've seen Roddick play at Wimbledon, and I've seen a lot of his Wimbledon matches.
Hopefully he plays even better against Federer, just for the spectacles sake.

Oh...my....God
That was a ridiculous match. Another epic Wimbledon classic. Great match to watch from start to finish.
I feel so sorry for Roddick though. As said in commentary, he really deserves more from his career than that one grand slam. Once again he has to accept the runner up spot to Federer after his defeats in the Wimbledon finals of 2004 and 2005. You have to admire his fighting spirit and the longer it went on the more I wanted him to win. Can't believe Federer didn't break the Roddick serve until so deep in the 5th set. However, I knew Federer was going to win the 5th. It just seemed like Roddick was just prolonging the inevitable by hanging in there.
Don't get me wrong, I love Federer and its amazing what he's achieved, beating Sampras' record in just 6 years, but I was disappointed by the outcome of this.
