Sunderland have been invited to take part in the famous Amsterdam Tournament as part of their preparations for the 2009-10 Barclays Premier League season.
Founded in 1999, the Amsterdam Tournament is considered one of the most prestigious summer tournaments in European football. Previous winners include Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona.
Taking place between the 24th and 26th of July, the Black Cats will be joined by Dutch giants Ajax, Spanish side Atletico Madrid and Portugal's Benfica in the four-team event, staged at Holland's magnificent Amsterdam Arena.
The impressive stadium, home to Ajax, features a retractable roof and has a capacity of 51,628. It was one of the host venues for the Euro 2000 tournament.
Speaking about the club's participation in the tournament, Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn said: "This is a very prestigious tournament and it's fantastic for the club to be involved."
Fantastic, gives us a chance to test ourselves against some of europe's best.

Quite a poor line up compared to usual, but good news for Sunderland they get to test themselves against some good teams and will get them more than ready for their first game of the season.
Ajax havent won it in four years, this will be there best chance imo. United have won it once since and Arsenal three times. Now Sunderland are going to come along and fuck up the English Winning streak. Athletico are in the Eirates cup aswell this year btw.
