Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed to Sky Sports News that Roberto Martinez will be the Premier League club's new manager.

An official announcement on Martinez's appointment is expected to be made in the next 24 hours, but Whelan has exclusively revealed that the deal is done.
The Spaniard, who has agreed a three-year contract, emerged as Wigan's top target soon after Steve Bruce left the Latics to take charge of Sunderland.
Swansea were initially reluctant to allow Martinez to speak to Wigan, but Liberty Stadium chairman Huw Jenkins relented once a reported £2million compensation package had been agreed.
Excited
Martinez, who spent six years as a player with Wigan and is fondly remembered by the club's fans as one of the 'Three Amigos', is one of the most highly-rated young managers in the game.
Whelan will hold further discussions with his new manager on Wednesday when they will set a budget for adding to the squad over the summer.
He told Sky Sports News: "I'm very excited about securing the services of Roberto Martinez. I hold him in the highest regard.
"On Wednesday we will meet to discuss, amongst other things, funding for players."
So that's that. Can he fill Steve Bruce's shoes?

Sheffield United are believed to have agreed to the request from the Swans to speak to player-coach Speed about replacing Roberto Martinez.
Martinez is poised to be named as the new Wigan manager, filling the vacancy left by Steve Bruce's departure to Sunderland.
The former Wales captain is one of a number of candidates in the frame with chairman Huw Jenkins claiming to have received 100 applications.
Vacancy
Ex-Wales international striker John Hartson has admitted his interest in the post, while Bury boss Alan Knill has also been linked with the vacancy.
Speed, who won 85 caps for his country, has taken his Uefa pro licence coaching qualifications and is known to be keen to move into management.
He has one year remaining on his Bramall Lane contract where he has been working alongside manager Kevin Blackwell.
The Blades came close to securing promotion to the Premier League last season before losing out in the Championship play-off final to Burnley at Wembley.
And there is his potential replacement.

Pompey are currently without a permanent head coach after temporary manager Paul Hart's deal expired at the end of last season.
The club are overseeing a period of change as prospective owner Sulaiman Al-Fahim is in a period of due diligence before his takeover at Fratton Park is completed.
A number of high-profile coaches have been linked with the post, including Sven Goran Eriksson, with Bilic's name the latest to be mentioned.
Bilic's agent, Rudi Vata, has now claimed the former West Ham defender would be keen to manage on the South Coast, despite the Croatian Football Federation being keen to hold onto his services.
Hungry
Vata, who recently suggested the Croatian could be set for Celtic, told The News: "Slaven is open to offers and there is interest from Portsmouth.
"There are different clubs who want him but he is very interested.
"Portsmouth have tried to get in touch, but there is no concrete offer at this stage.
"But the idea of working with and building the club would excite him.
"Slaven is hungry for the right club with the right ambition because he is a hungry manager. He is a person who sets high goals and wants to work hard to achieve them.
"There are going to be special things from him in the future."
Would be a very good appointment for Portsmouth and I would like to see him in the Prem soon. A very good young manager with a lot of charisma to boot.

Martinez stuff is nothing new at all, we knew it was done days ago and I posted shit on Speed a while ago.
Only new stuff there is Bilic, but doesn't he always get linked with English job and then gets nowhere near them? To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Wigan are the huge winners here. Sunderland have gained a vastly overrated manager who can't coach a defence and Wigan have gained a young up and comer who built a team who played fantastic football. Phantom won't thank me for saying this but Swansea were the best footballing side in Division 1 last season, if they could have been more clinical they'd have got promoted

You're right, I don't like it!!
Swansea under someone other than Martinez won't cause half as much of a threat to other teams.
Wigan will soon be playing the same dazzling football as Arsenal.

You're right, they won't. Scotland and Bodde are leaving and that guy from Espanyol is going back, they'll end up sturggling and back in division 2 within a couple of seasons. That's as good as it got for that rabble, thankfully

Aidy Boothroyd is interested in the soon-to-be-vacant manager's job at Swansea City.
The 38-year-old former Watford boss has been out of work since leaving Vicarage Road last November but has made contact with Swans chairman Huw Jenkins.
"He has declared an interest," Jenkins told BBC Wales.
Swansea manager Roberto Martinez is expected to make his switch to Wigan next week after a row over compensation for backroom staff delayed the move.
Interesting... amazingly a job in Swansea is causing a lot of interest. Don't they realise they have to go through Port Talbot every day to get to work?!
Anyway, I think Boothroyd would be a much wiser choice than Speed at this stage. Speed needs to cut his teeth at a league 1 or 2 club first.

Former Celtic, West Ham and Norwich defender Malky Mackay has been named as the new Watford manager.
The 37-year-old, who has been coaching at Vicarage Road since 2007, replaces Brendan Rodgers, who left the Hornets to join Reading.
Mackay, who won three Scotland caps, had a spell as caretaker with Watford after Aidy Boothroyd left in November.
The Scot, who ended his playing career at Vicarage Road, recorded two wins, a draw and two defeats while in charge.
Former Watford midfielder Andy Hessenthaler, who has won promotion to Conference South with Dover since leaving his post as Gillingham player-manager, had expressed an interest in returning to the Championship club.
Well I'm sure Watford fans love it.

Former Liverpool winger John Barnes has been appointed manager of League One club Tranmere, with Jason McAteer named his assistant.
Barnes, who recently quit his job as boss of Jamaica, returns to club management for the first time since his ill-fated reign as manager of Celtic in 2000.
Barnes was sacked by the Glasgow club after a shock Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Inverness.
The 45-year-old replaces former boss Ronnie Moore, who was sacked after narrowly missing out on the play-offs on the final day of last season.
Tranmere chairman Peter Johnson said: "I am delighted John has agreed to become our Manager as he was our first choice for the position.
"With John and Jason as the Club's management team they bring a wealth of experience, knowledge and contacts within the game.
"They are a Wirral-based partnership who are very enthusiastic about what they can offer Tranmere and I look forward to watching their team play next season.
"They have both had successful careers as players and hopefully they can be successful together in management at Tranmere."
