Rate each Premiership team's 08-09 performance

Here is the final Premiership table (from SkySports):

To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Basically, give each team a rating out of 10 for their performance this season, maybe adding brief comments as to why you gave them that rating, if you so wish.

Who's exceeded expectations and who has been disappointing?

Re: Rate each Premiership team's 08-09 performance

This is based on league performance only.

1st Manchester United - 9.5/10

Champions, and deservedly so. 90 points is a ridiculous total too. Simply the best. Always seem to get the job done.

2nd Liverpool - 9/10
Did extremely well to push United as far as they did. Not far away but just fell short. Easily their best challenge to date. Torres and Gerrard were exceptional. Just lacked creativity at times.

3rd Chelsea - 7/10
Did pretty well, but they didn't really challenge, and 3rd will be seen as a disappointment for them. Hiddink came in and did a great job though. They just couldn't recover from some poor early form under Scolari. Need to do better if they're gonna challenge next year.

4th Arsenal - 6.5/10
They played some great stuff as always, but they were nowhere near challenging at any stage and at one point it looked like even a Champions League place was slipping away. Need investment if they are to prove a force again.

5th Everton -9/10
They had a bad start but recovered spectacularly and have had another fantastic season under Moyes. They really couldn't have done much better considering the strength of the big four. Moyes has done a great job.

6th Aston Villa - 8/10

They only get an 8 due to their end of season slump, but it was still a very positive season for O'Neill and his men, as at one stage they looked like making the CL. Performing above expectations brings pressure though. They can be very happy with their season, but the summer will be make or break for this team. They could lose key players, particularly the influential Barry.

7th Fulham - 10/10
Fucking incredible performance. After the Great Escape last year, they have pushed on and somehow got a European Place against all the odds. Hodgson is manager of the season without a doubt. Can't praise the guy enough for the job he has done. Signings like Hangeland ftw.

8th Tottenham - 6/10
After their nightmare start under Ramos, they have turned it around under Redknapp and ended up with a more than respectable top-half finish. Just missed out on Europe, but there is certainly scope for improvement next year. Well done.

9th West Ham United - 7.5/10
Zola has come in and done a very good job at the club, and a top half finish represents a good season's work for the Hammers. Battling relegation a couple of years ago seems like a distant memory now, as they are looking up the table rather than down it. The reports of financial turmoil are worrying though. Very good season nonetheless.

10th. Manchester City - 6/10
They didn't do too badly in the end, maintaining their great home form and even having the audacity to win a 2nd away game. The reason they only get a 6 is simple. The amount of money spent. I know it takes teams time to gel, but if you spend 150 million in a year, you expect a high finish, especially when they had a good team anyway. They did alright though, not bad by any means. Next season will be interesting, as will this summer.

11. Wigan Athletic - 8/10
Bruce's men miss out on a top half finish, but they can be very pleased with their progress this season. Should really be down at the bottom considering the size of the club, but Bruce has proved himself and worked wonders at the club with some great signings. They'll lose Valencia in the summer though. Great season for them.

12th Stoke - 9/10
As much as I dislike Pulis and the way his team plays, they're fucking Stoke and they finished 12th lol. Hats (unfashionable caps which are inappropriate for a man of his age) off to him.

13th Bolton Wanderers - 7/10

Nearly went down last year but Megson has done a very solid job (again, as much as I dislike him) and 13th is a good final position for them. Been pretty comfortable all season.

14th Portsmouth 6/10

They were awful under Adams, but Hart has done a really good job and 14th is a decent finish for them. Managed to drag their way out of a relegation battle admirably.

15th Blackburn Rovers 5/10
Another team who suffered from a poor appointment in Ince. Allardyce got back to basics and did a good job avoiding a relegation scrap. Fairly average season, and they will hope to do better next year. Unfortunately they may lose big names.

16th Sunderland - 5/10
Yes they avoided relegation, and yes they had their problems with Keane walking out, but they should be doing better really considering the talent in the team and the investment in recent years. Keane made some bad buys in the summer which hindered them. They'll be happy to stay in the Prem and will look to push on next year.

17th. Hull City - 8/10

They're Hull. They deserve an 8 just for staying in the league. Took the Premiership by storm before Christmas then went on to do fucking awfully for the rest of the season and stay up by the skin of their teeth. Will need big changes if they are to stay up again imo. I can't see it. For now though, I'll let them have their moment of glory. You're an idiot Phil, but to keep Hull in the Premier League is an achievement in anyone's book.

18th Newcastle United - 2/10
Horribly run club, a team of overrated players, a string of terrible performances. They really did deserve what they got, and this was never shown as clearly as on the final day, when they went down with a whimper against Villa. Things need to change and fast, or this big club may not get back to the promised land of the Premier League. Nightmare season.

19th Middlesbrough - 2.5/10

Again, pretty damn poor. They get a slightly higher rating just because it was more expected that they would go down, but still, they should be doing better than this. A very bad season for the club, and Southgate should have gone imo.

20th. West Brom - 4/10
They were never really expected to stay up, and they did well to at least make a fight of it late on, resulting in their highest points total in a premier league season. Bottom though.

Re: Rate each Premiership team's 08-09 performance

Manchester United - 10/10. They show real strengths of a champion this season & did something that Liverpool where unable to do & that was win even when they was playing poorly.

Liverpool - 9.5/10 There highest position since the 2001/2002 season & the first time in ages that they have played with real threat & people really believed that they could win the league. All they need to do for next season is to do what United is able to do & that is to win matches even when they are going through a bad patch
Chelsea - 9/10 Had a great season. Not their best but one of their best seasons in the premier league.

Arsenal - 7/10 There is no doubt that Arsenal have a great youth squad but if they really want to challenge for the league title they need to break the bank & buy some experienced players because that is there main weakness.

Everton - 8/10 Great season for them. Especially with all their injury problems. (Correct me if im wrong but there was a point in the season where they were scoring on a weekly basis & they never even had a striker on their team)

Aston Villa - 8/10. They had a great first half of the season but when downhill big time in the second half. Most people even suggested that they were going to make it to fourth spot.

Fulham - 9.5/10. Roy Hodgson has done wonders with that team. Kept them from relegation at the end of last season & then provided them with their highest ever finish this season. Easily the best manager of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur -7/10 started of the season pretty poorly but turned it around magnificently in the second half of the season. They could of easily challenged for the champions league position if they had played as good as they did in the second half of the season throughout the whole season.

West Ham - 6/10. Had a ok season. could of done better in my eyes but not to bad with the team they had.

Manchester City - 6/10. With all that money they had a lot of people where expecting them to do a lot better this season but in the end they didn't have to bad of a season.

Wigan - 7/10 Wigan haven't done to badly since their arrival to the premiership. When they first came up most people expected them to go straight back down but they have proved everyone wrong & have gone from strength to strength. Another good season for Wigan

Stoke City - 8/10. Expected them to do a lot worse & pretty much be in the relegation battle this year. Proved me wrong good to them.

Bolton - 6/10 Not a bad finish for Bolton. Could of done better in my eyes but still a nice solid season for them. Lets see if they can do as good next season.

Portsmouth - 6/10. Started of the season pretty bad but managed to turn it around in the second half & 14th is a pretty decent finish for them this season

Blackburn Rovers - 5/10. Could of done so much better than 15th position. Paul Ince was a poor choice of a manager but big Sam managed to turn it around for them. They really should do better next season

Sunderland - 5/10. Could of done better & should of done better with some of the players they had. Also they proved on the final day against Chelsea that they are a very talented team. Should do better next season

Hull City - 7/10. Just managed to survive relegation on the final day. They started of the season pretty well & i thought they would actually do pretty well after the win at Arsenal. they really fucked up after Christmas though. Still good for them for staying up

Newcastle - 2/10. OK where do i start with this team. Horrible season, Horribly run, to many manager changes in one season & the team as a whole has no real direction. Relegation should do them good as it will give them a chance to rebuild their team. I just hope they don't go the same way as Leeds went.

Middlesborough - 2/10 Predicted this at the beginning of the season so i aint really surprised that they went down. They had a horrible season & deserve to go down really

West Brom - 3/10 Pretty much everyone expected them to go down & their relegation has been clear for a long time. They gave it their all though.

Re: Rate each Premiership team's 08-09 performance

Manchester United 9/10 - Considering the squad, they slipped up too many times and could have shot themseleves in the foot.
Liverpool 9/10 - Great season that won the league any other year.
Chelsea 7/10 - Should have been a bigger threath since the start but it took them a while to get going.
Arsenal 6/10 - Much like Chelsea except it took even longer.
Everton 7/10 - Great performance again.
Aston Villa First half of the season 8/10 second half 4/10 - Started really well but the lack of dept showed and they slipped away.
Fulham 11/10 - Team of the season.
Tottenham Hotspur 4/10 - Horrid start results in a low score despite the late rally.
West Ham 6/10 - About what was expected.
Manchester City 5/10 - Underperformed.
Wigan 7/10 - Overachieved
Stoke City 9/10 - Massivly overachieved.
Bolton 7/10 - About what was expceted.
Portsmouth 5/10 - Very poor season considering how last season went.
Blackburn Rovers 6/10 - Below what was expected.
Sunderland 4/10 - Gone backwards.
Hull City First half 9/10 second half 1/10 - Started brilliantly but then hit the self destruct button.
Newcastle 2/10 - Mike Ashley pressed said self destruct button every second week it seemed.
Middlesborough 3/10 - Very bad season as they should have never gotten into this position.
West Brom 5/10 - The stuck to their principals and gave it go right from the start. Its a shame teams who play decent foot ball go down but teams like Blackburn stay up.

Re: Rate each Premiership team's 08-09 performance

Looking back, I can't believe I gave Spurs an 8. I think I was judging Redknapp's tenure rather than the season. I'm editing it to a 6.

Re: Rate each Premiership team's 08-09 performance

1st Manchester United - 9/10
Very solid this season, didnt wow me as much as last in terms of good football but still the best footballing team in the league

2nd Liverpool - 9/10
They did very well, i think thats the best they can do to be honest. Usually i wouldnt watch them because they play awful football but they have been watchable this season. I know Liverpool fans and ive been telling them for ages they cant compete for a league because they play really bad football. They played ok football this year and competed for the league. Rafa is mental

3rd Chelsea - 8/10
Started off well but after a while they went awol. Too many big heads in the dressing room. The Goose really turned them around. Uniteds biggest contenders next year

4th Arsenal - 5/10
Ah Arsenal! they didnt play arsenal football this season. The pace of their game dropped so their penetration disappeared.

5th Everton 7/10
I thought they were in a relegation battle at the start of the season but they turned it around.

6th Aston Villa - 6/10
Started off well but when O'Neill dumped themselves out of Europe they got what they deserved.

7th Fulham - 10/10
Excellent fair play to them. They were down last year and have been so strong at the back this year.

8th Tottenham - 5/10
Redknapp did a good job but their players are a bunch of wasters more concerned about which Big Brother reject they are gonna roast

9th West Ham United - 8/10
Good season from the hammers

10th. Manchester City - 6/10
They need a manager who knows how to use big sums of money. Rubbish defence

11. Wigan Athletic - 5/10
Dont watch them so i cant judge

12th Stoke - 9/10
Great support, i thought they were doomed but they had a good season

13th Bolton Wanderers - 5/10
Dont watch them

14th Portsmouth 6/10
They were ok in europe

15th Blackburn Rovers 5/10
Dont watch them

16th Sunderland - 7/10
I think they did ok. They dont have much of a team and they had a joke of a manager at the start of the season. Ricky did very well when he came in.

17th. Hull City - 5/10
i will give them 5 because for the 1st half of the season they get 5/5 the second hald 0/5

18th Newcastle United - 1/10
Really really bad football team, i watched the Villa match and they really didnt seem to bothered

19th Middlesbrough - 3/10
i felt sorry for them when they went down, i hope they keep southgate

20th. West Brom - 5/10
Never seen them play this season so i wont judge
