Juventus have announced that Claudio Ranieri has been sacked as manager following an emergency meeting of the club's board on Monday.
The Turin-based club sit third in Serie A but, with two matches of the season remaining, fourth-placed Fiorentina are chasing down a one-point deficit.
If Juventus - who have not won a league game in seven attempts - surrender their position they will lose an automatic spot in next term's UEFA Champions League.
The club's hierarchy has therefore decided to act and junior team coach Ciro Ferrara has taken over the reins.
Speculation has suggested that Genoa manager Giampiero Gasperini could be the man to succeed former Chelsea boss Ranieri at the Stadio Olimpico in the long term.
Ranieri, 57, took over at Juventus in June 2007 when he signed a three-year contract with the Italian giants.
Mancini anyone?

Im really looking forward to seeing what else Juve does this off-season. I love them signing Diego, who was more or less the only reason Id watch Werder Bremen games this year. I hope they add a few pieces around him.

Dmac, he's [Diego] going there. This won't change much really. Saw this coming anyways, he's been questioned all season, and juve have been pretty much shite for the last 2 months.
Don't be surprised if he's mentioned with Real, though it looks more and more likely that Wegner will be there next season.
