I don't think it will be disastrous because he's on a free, but I think it sends out the wrong message. We should be building for the future, but this makes us seem desperate. When you have £80m in the bank and you're signing an injury prone 29 year old on a free, thats a problem.
I don't think it sends out the wrong message at all. Michael Owen has scored goals at the highest stage, there's no doubting that. He'll bring a wealth of experience with him - which can only help the young strikers at the club, like Macheda and Wellbeck - which they can benefit from by training week in week out with Owen. Laurent Blanc helped Uniteds young defenders during his time at the club, and Ferguson has always highlighted that when talking about Blanc.
Also he won't be expected to play as many games as he was doing at Newcastle. Owen's main problem is that he was getting rushed back into action too quickly. That won't happen at United.
I don't want United to piss away £80m just because they've got it.
There are plenty of realistic targets out there without going for players like Terry.
Is there any news on Lescott?
Last I heard City weren't prepared to meet Evertons valuation. I think City tried to add Jo to the deal as well. I think City will probably get him, but right at the end of the window.
Hopefully we do but i can't see us signing anyone decent. Maybe a couple of young unknown guys but no one big.

German giants Bayern have identified Bosingwa as their prime target to fill the problemetic right-back spot at the Allianz Arena.
Reports suggested that the trail had gone cold, but Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed the club still want to sign the Portugal international.
Rummenigge says there is 'serious contact' with Chelsea and believes the 26-year-old could make the move to the Bundesliga.
Convinced
"We are still on the look-out for a right-sided defender," Rummenigge told Sport Bild.
"We therefore continue to have a serious contact with Chelsea.
"We are convinced about Bosingwa and that he would fit in really well at FC Bayern.
"I don't think the book has been closed on this issue yet."
Bayern have still to replace the retired Willy Sagnol at right-back, with Massimo Oddo failing to impress in the position last season.

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to confirm that Daniel Sturridge has agreed to join the club on a four-year contract.
He will join the first team squad for pre-season training next week when the players return from their summer break.
Well it was probably best for him to move away from Eastlands. Chelsea have been interested for a while. It'll be interesting to see how much game time he gets this season.
Wolves have completed the signing of Sunderland's Greg Halford for an undisclosed fee. Halford has signed a three-year deal – with an option for a further 12 months – at Molineux to become the promoted club's third new arrival in four days following the captures of Kevin Doyle and Andrew Surman.
The 24-year-old joined Sunderland in 2007 from Reading for £3m but failed to settle on Wearside and was loaned out to Charlton and Sheffield United. "I'm really excited about moving down to Wolves," Halford said.
"It is going to be an exciting season for the club going into the Premier League and hopefully we can push on and establish ourselves in the division. Wolves are obviously a big club and the infrastructure is all there.
There's a great training ground, great stadium and a large fanbase and all the plans are in place for Wolves to really establish themselves."
Halford scored the winner in the play-off semi-final against Preston which took Sheffield United to Wembley but the Blades' loss to Burnley effectively ended any hopes the South Yorkshire side had of luring him to Bramall Lane on a permanent deal. Wolves stepped in and Halford did not hesitate to link up with the manager Mick McCarthy.
"I know there has been interest from Wolves for a while and apparently a call went in not long after the play-off final," he added. "That went a long way to making up my mind to be honest, how keen the manager was to get the deal done. It always plays a big part when a manager shows how much he wants you to join and obviously I'd also heard a lot of good things about him from other people."
"Trying to prove myself at the top level is another main reason for the move. I thought I did well in the Championship last season but want to do well in the Premier League as well. There probably wasn't going to be that chance for me at Sunderland but I'm delighted to take the opportunity of trying with Wolves."
Halford can play at right-back, in midfield and also in attack and will add versatility to McCarthy's squad.
Shame he's gone i liked him and thought he should of been given more of a chance but there we go.

No idea what Fergie's at. Seems like he's panic buying again.
Can anyone say Kleberson and Djemba Djemba?
Difference is this is a free transfer and a pay as you play deal. It's not a huge risk, but I understand what you're saying.
And Phantom I'm not saying we should piss away £80m, just spend the necessary amount to bring in a young player with the required quality and build for the future.
