If somebody else in the Premiership starts floating bigger offers Silvas way...Hes going to start throwing more dough at him. I think hes just trying to scare Silva into committing before a bidding war breaks out.

Manchester City are lining up a move for Aston Villa striker John Carew, skysports.com understands.

City boss Mark Hughes has made a new forward one his top priorites this summer and Carew is now thought to be his main target after cooling his interest in Blackburn's Roque Santa Cruz.
City have struggled for goals this season, especially away from home, and Hughes sees powerful frontman Carew as the man who could solve their attacking problems.
Hughes is thought to be a big admirer of Carew and sees the Norwegian international as the perfect foil to the likes of Robinho and Craig Bellamy.
Carew has scored 11 league goals 15 in all competitions, including eight in his last 16 appearances, in a season in which he has not always first-choice in Martin O'Neill's starting XI.
The former Lyon and Valencia star's future has been the subject of speculation ever since the January arrival of Emile Heskey and Villa could be tempted to sell Carew for the right offer.
If Villa decide to offload Carew their asking price would prove no problem for cash-rich City who are likely to make a number of changes to their squad as they look to break into the top six next season.
Thoughts Crocker/CMD?

I think he will leave Blackburn but now I dont think he's coming City.
Like you said we are proberly going to buy a big name striker plus we already have far too many strikers(Bellamy, Benjani, Bojinov, Caicedo, Sturridge, Evans, Vassell and to an extent Robinho) so I dont think its worth buying a striker unless he's top class.

Agreed but I think a lot of them will be leaving.
I can see Benjani, Vassell and Caicedo all being shown the door, while Evans and maybe even Sturridge will be loaned.
Someone big will come in. I've heard rumours of Forlan.
Tevez remains a distinct possibility with him wanting to remain in the Prem and City obviously having the financial resources to outbid everybody else.

Portuguese schemer rues injury that ruined his dream move

Zenit St Petersburg's Portuguese international Danny has revealed that he received an offer from Chelsea before suffering a long-term injury.
The attacking midfielder, whom Zenit signed for a Russian record £25million from Dynamo Moscow last summer, has impressed with his performances in Russia and Europe, and was rewarded with a first call-up to the Portugal squad in August 2008.
However, a ruptured knee ligament injury suffered in training is estimated to have put him out for six months.
And Danny revealed to the Portuguese newspaper Record that, had he remained fit, offers were on the table from some of Europe's biggest sides, including Chelsea.
"This has all happened at a time when other European leagues were coming to an end in a few weeks," he told the newspaper.
"And I incidentally had an offer from Chelsea, and the probability of a transfer to England was very high."
The player has returned to Portugal for an operation on his knee, and any talk of a transfer has had to be put on hold.
"We have to wait and see what happens next. At Chelsea they know me as a player very well, but all will depend on how my operation goes," he said.
"At the moment I have a different [goal]: to recover 100 per cent."
Shame for him, he's a great player. That goal he scored against us in the Super Cup was brilliant.

The highly-rated 23-year-old is being tracked by a host of clubs, with interest from England very strong.
Arsenal, Everton, Wolves and Birmingham are amongst the clubs linked with Assman, who could reportedly move on loan with a view to a permanent deal.
But it is Chelsea who are seemingly leading the chase after they made contact with Assmann's club Independiente.
Chelsea are looking for a new number two to provide back-up for Petr Cech and Middlesbrough's Ross Turnbull is known to be high on their wanted list.
However, Assmann is another potential recruit and his British-based representative Barry McIntosh has confirmed their interest.
"We have been made aware that Chelsea have gone to the club and made contact," McIntosh told skysports.com.
"However, there are a number of clubs looking at him and it is too early to say where it is happening."
McIntosh intimated that Assmann would prefer a move to a club where he would command the number one jersey.
"Assman will be playing for Argentina very soon, and with a World Cup coming up he has a very good chance of making the squad," he continued.
"So for him to go somewhere as number two, we are not sure if that is going to be the best option - if somebody else was to offer first-team football then we would have to look very closely at that."
lol assman.

Sunderland have confirmed that the club will not be taking up the option to sign Djibril Cisse on a permanent deal.
The flamboyant French striker joined the club on a season-long loan from Marseille last summer.
Chairman Niall Quinn said: " We wish Djibril well and thank him for his contribution to the club this season."
Cisse netted 11 goals in 32 appearances for the Black Cats (29 starts and 5 subs), one behind leading scorer Kenwyne Jones.
Did score some memorable goals for us like his first sub appearence against Spurs and also twice against the Mags To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
