Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp revealed Wilson Palacios flew to Honduras ahead of their 0-0 draw against Everton following the discovery of a body believed to be that of his kidnapped brother.

Palacios’ younger brother Edwin was kidnapped in 2007 with a ransom demanded for his release, and the £14 million signing from Wigan left the Tottenham hotel at 7am following the grim news on Saturday.

“The lad had heard from his family at about one in the morning what had happened, and his brothers I believe have identified the body,” Redknapp said.

“But he sat around the hotel lobby with his case packed until 7am because he didn’t want to wake me.

“I’m amazed with him. But we organised for him to be driven back to London so he could get a flight home.

“Things like that bring everything into focus. I believe the boy had been kidnapped and a ransom had been paid but he had not been released.”

Spurs kept in the hunt for seventh-place to secure a berth in the Europa League next season, as Redknapp reverted to defensive formula he employed earlier in the season.

“We tried a new system with three centre-backs and two wing-backs. It is something I used earlier in the season when I brought Portsmouth here [Goodison Park] and got a 3-0 win,” added the Spurs boss.

“We decided to try something different. We had plenty of possession and maybe deserved more from the game.”
Wow missed up stuff.

Re: Palacios flies home after tragedy

South America is crazy for that kind of stuff. If I was a footballer playing from there but playing abroad, I think I would do whatever I could to get my family out of there.

Re: Palacios flies home after tragedy

Well Palacios I imagine is on enough money to get them out of there, think about how much he was sold for.

I think a big issue would be whether the family would want to go, though. London isn't exactly similar to Ecuador in most ways.

Re: Palacios flies home after tragedy

If it is THAT bad then whether they want to leave or not, they shouldn't really have a choice in the matter.

Re: Palacios flies home after tragedy

Of course they should. It is there home. It is where they have grown up. They have friends there, speak the language etc etc.

If they had wanted to leave then there is no doubt in my mind they aleady would have

Re: Palacios flies home after tragedy

Our son just got kidnapped and killed and we could be protected over in England because our son that is still alive is rich... but we have friends here so we'll stay.
