Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has issued an angry denial of claims Craig Gordon is not in the side over a payment clause.
Gordon has played 49 times for The Black Cats since his 2007 move from Hearts, and his new club will have to pay £330,000 if he plays a further game due to the conditions set out in the transfer agreement.
And, as the Scotland international has not played since the 1-0 victory over Hull last month, there have been suggestions Sunderland are reluctant to pay out.
However, Gordon’s late withdrawal before the game against West Brom was the result of a knee injury and Quinn is furious about the suggestion there was a financial motive.
I just find it funny that a goalkeeper that you spent so much money on is getting beaten to first team football by a keeper that you were angry Stoke pulled out of buying at the time.
