Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs has won the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year award for the first time in his career.

The 35-year-old Welshman beat team-mates Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Cristiano Ronaldo and Edwin van der Sar as well as Liverpool's Steven Gerrard.

Despite winning a host of honours, including 10 Premier League titles, the PFA award had eluded Giggs until now.

Aston Villa forward Ashley Young took the Young Player of the Year award.

He beat his Villa team-mate Gabriel Agbonlahor, Manchester United duo Jonny Evans and Rafael Da Silva, Aaron Lennon of Spurs and Manchester City's Stephen Ireland.

Since making his League debut against Everton at Old Trafford in March 1991 aged 17, Giggs has been a key figure in Sir Alex Ferguson's teams.

What bullshit though, that goes for the young player award as well, Stephen Ireland was much better than Ashley Young.

Plus Young was better. City have been terrible and while Ireland's been great at times, he's a reason for their shit season just as everybody else is.

I know you're a United fan but you only have to watch, Ireland clearly deserves it more for performances he made in a team that had a bad season.

But don't try and stray away from Giggs, I'm not just talking about Gerrard, I don't think Giggs even deserved to make the shortlist, he has only scored 3 goals in all competetions, 1 in the league and has only started 24 times in all competitions with 12 being in the league. That does not merit any award on this earth.

Ireland has done nothing as impressive as some of Young's performances. Young's been the key player in a team which until very recently, was challenging for 4th and looked like getting it.

As for bullshit, have you seen the team of the year? The idea that Anelka has been better than Rooney is laughable.

Ireland doesn't deserve it, Young does, he's in a team that up to a certain point were challenging for a champions league spot, city and Ireland haven't.

Young is the more cosistant of the two.

It should be how the player has done not the team, Ireland has been consitantly very good all season, Young at times has been hot and cold.

And in the case of Giggs, how can somebody who has only started a third of the league games in the season be player of the year.

One, you couldn't be more wrong, Ronaldo is.

And two, how is scoring the most goals being the best player? Are you saying Ronaldo should be player of the year?

Rooney has clearly been the better player overall. When was the last time Anelka did anything of note?
