Who's next to challenge Premier League teams?

Well we have all established that right now it is pretty much Barcelona vs England when it comes to the UEFA Champions League because they seem to be the only team in Europe, able to match the Premier League teams. Sure I will definitely be biased but the teams left in the Semi finals for the Champions League tells it's own story.

My question is, which team(s) will step up next season to the challenge if any?

I believe Madrid still have one good run left in them. It really baffles me how bad they are. It just shows money can't buy you everything. But I seriously believe they could be deadly in 2 years or so- if put together right. Really the only team I can see challenging the prem teams.

Re: Who's next to challenge Premier League teams?

Real Madrid don't really seem any closer imo. They've gone out before the quarters the last 5 years now. That is terrible. Their squad contains some great players but to me it just seems like a mish mash of all these random players, some of whom are good enough to win the CL, some not. They don't have a clear enough transfer policy and the club is basically a circus. Even if they get Ronaldo, I don't see him being enough to help them challenge for the CL.

You would have to say that its just going to be Barca again. The Italian teams arn't good enough because the league is weak.

Maybe Bayern will come back better, but its unlikely because Ribery for one will in all likelihood be leaving for England or Spain in the summer.

Re: Who's next to challenge Premier League teams?

I personally disagree on the Itallians.

Yes, the Serie A is a weak league but the Milan duo are always at the top of it because in my opinion they have very good teams. Inter Milan weren't bad this season, they simply went out to United in a close match, it wasn't a demolition by any means. AC Milan, next season I see coming back into the Champions League bigger and stronger and if they sign Beckham again, that will only be a plus.

They both just need to make a few key signings which for clubs of their size is not hard to do and they will be set.

Re: Who's next to challenge Premier League teams?

Yeah other than Liverpools visit to Old Trafford Inter probably put it up to them ore than any. Milan and Inter have suffered from years of mismanagement. it looks like Anchelotti is getting the chop in the summer and Mourinho is slowly bringing Inter together. Juve were also the better team imo against Chelsea as was Roma against Arsenal. Serie A's recent plummet has ended and are on the slow road to recovery. Last year was the low point. But the mismanagement needs to end.

Bayern Can Be deadly when they want to but one thing i have noticed with them over the last few years is that they are very inconsistent. They did well in the champions league group stage & Extremely well in the First knockout round but then pretty much declined after that. Plus in the league they won it last year but the previous year they finished like 4th & didn't even quality for the champions league. Even after doing well in the 2007 - 08 Uefa cup they still lost 5 -1 on aggregate to a team very little people knew about.

As for the orignal question i don't think there is really any team that could challenge the English teams in the champions league. Madrid have really declined in the last few seasons as have AC Milian. Inter COULD challenege them if they put in a little bit more effort.

Re: Who's next to challenge Premier League teams?

AC need a complete squad overhaul tbh. They have so many players the wrong side of 30 its ridiculous.

Shevchenko
Gattuso
Maldini (leaving)
Favalli
Nesta (may have to retire anyway due to injury)
Inzaghi
Beckham
Seedorf
Zambrotta
Kaladze
Ambrosini
Jankulovski
Dida

ALL those players will need replacing soon, then you have Ronaldinho and Pirlo at a youthful 29.

Kaka and Pato are their only even semi-young players who are good enough.

With age comes experience, sure some of those will need to be replaced pretty soon but there are also some that can still hack it with the best of them.

Their exit to Arsenal in 2008 was basically the end of an era. They then failed to qualify for the CL for this season. I'm pretty sure that team has had its time and now they need new blood and lots of it.
