Do you agree with messrs Ferguson and Wenger in their condemnation of the Wembley playing service? In every showpiece occasion I can think of, the game has been pretty dire with hardly any goals. 1-0 AET to Chelsea in the 2007 FA Cup final, 1-0 to Pompey last year, 0-0 United/Spurs in the Carling Cup, and another 0-0 in one of the semi finals this year. Then there was the goalless community shield this season too.
I personally think the pitch is pretty terrible and compromises Wembley's claims of being a great stadium. I am not sure what can be done about it though. The problem is clearly that too many events are held at Wembley, but they have to do that to justify the costs.
Thoughts?

For the showpiece stadium, in one of the biggest footballing countries in the world, it's appaling, but if we get to the Play-off Final, I don't care whether there's a pitch or not, as long as we win.

I only really noticed it when watching Arsenal vs Chelsea. For the amount it cost you'd think they could at least get the grass right. Hell, its not far from the Emirates, pop in and ask what they use since the Emirates does be nearly perfect the entire season.

I noticed in the very first game, the 2007 FA Cup Final. Its been bad since the stadium was built.
But the problem is the amount of different events taking place on it. The Emirates only has to withstand Arsenal (and Arsenal reserves?) games.

Some idiot also decided to hold an NFL game there, a week before England's crucial qualifier with Croatia, in November, when the pitch was muddy as it is.

The reserves only use the stadium the rare time, mostly they use Barnet's due to the size. The amount of events shouldnt matter. The Emirates is used nearly every week at some point and still maintains a perfect playing surface. Even if Wembley isnt perfect, it should at least be flat so the ball isnt bouncing all over the place.

Well if the idea that goes through which I doubt it will, Wembley could be hosting the superbowl pretty soon. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
