A plan to increase the Premier League to two divisions including Celtic and Rangers is to be discussed by club chairman on Thursday.
The two divisions would each contain 16 teams, freeing more weekends for international preparation and games.
And clubs who at the moment face a huge drop in income after relegation to the Championship would lose less money.
Bolton chairman Phil Gartside has put the scheme together and will present it to his Premier League counterparts.
In theory, the addition of the Old Firm should provide a stiffer test for Scotland's top two clubs and also generate more enthusiasm from broadcasters and fans.
That would make up some of the money each club would lose if the Premier League is expanded from 20 to 36 clubs.
At the moment, teams relegated to the Championship are given £11.5m a year for two years for lost television income if they drop out of the top flight and are not promoted back into it.
Gartside's plan, which will need the approval of 14 out of 20 Premier League chairmen, would offer more financial stability to teams in the lower half of the Premier League, who would then be able to plan for the future with greater certainty.
lolwut?

How the hell would that work out? Two league champions? Do they face each other at the end of the season to determin the true champions? How does it get divided? North and South? That would likely mean the exact same two teams in first and second each year (United and Liverpool for North, Chelsea and Arsenal for South). Who gets promoted in each division to make up the extra 16 spots? And how does Champions League qualification work? Way too many questions to be answered before this could be discussed.

no i think the premier league 2 will replace the championship, although there probably will be a championship but that will consist of lower championship teams and good league 1 teams. It could also lead to the rest of league 1 and 2 into a north/south competition but thats just my specualtion.
I think its a good idea but if i was a supporter of an English club i wouldnt be too happy about the prospect of Celtic and Rangers fans visiting my ground.

You only have to look at the behaviour of Rangers fans before the UEFA cup final last year for that answer. I'm not tarring all Scottish people with the same brush, but the majority of Glaswegian football fans I've encountered don't know how to behave themselves.
It couldn't work because FIFA rules state that clubs are no longer allowed to move outside their own country for league competiton. The clubs that are already there are allowed to stay.

Yeah I'm not having those hooligans coming down and trashing Manchester again.
So England has never had hooligans, you've never rioted in Germany, The ICF and Chelsea Headhunters etc never exsisted. Liverpool fans never killed the Italians. English fans criticizing any fans behaviour is hyprocritical to see the least.
Look at other times Rangers have went to England - Derby, Newcastle and Manchester 5 or 6 years ago no trouble.
Also its very easy to judge when you don't know the full story. I was in Manchester and it was never ready and tbh they never wanted Rangers there they wanted a coffee sipping Italians not 250,000 scots and Ulstermen. The police were not innocent i know this first hand as me and my mates walking towards the stadium a policemen kicked him in the nuts so hard they swelled to 3 times the size and had to go into a wheelchair for 2 months as he couldn't walk due to the pain. And what did this guy do wrong:

Anyway, The OF coming to the PL would benefit the PL just as much as it would the OF. Both travel in huge numbers so would generate extra income for other clubs. To have themost famous derby in the world in your league can't be a bad thing either.
Most famous derby in the world? There's a few others which rank up there too fella.
I can see the for and against arguments. My main objective would be the Old Firm abandoning their domestic league and leaving their fellow clubs in the lurch. If they leave, the other SPL teams lose their 4 bigest games of the season (in terms of gate receipts) and a lot of TV revenue.
Also, the Scottish attitude towards the English, especially when it pertains to football, is shameful. I could see a huge number of scuffles taking place.
On the plus side, I wouldn't mind a trip to Glasgow to watch the mighty Blues.
