Okay so we all remember back to 2006 where Cech was accidentally kneed in the head by Stephen Hunt of Reading which fractured his skull. Ever since, he has been playing with a head guard on, mostly worn by rugby players.
Now this is a point that was made by Andy Gray in the studio while analysing the Chelsea/Bolton game. Apparently Cech's skull is now stronger than ever, not just healed, stronger than it was before and that sums up to one thing, he really doesn't need to wear the head guard anymore.
Remember back to when Cech first came over to the Premier League, he was easily the best goalkeeper in the world, but since the accident he has just seemed to fade out and really isn't the keeper he once was. Now here is Gray's theory.
He beleives that the heas guard is just for comfort and compared it to a young childs comfort blanket and just like a comfort blanket, sooner or later it has to be taken away for the child to grow. Now should Cech finally shed the head guard, maybe we would see the return of the old, real Petr Cech.
I personally agree with the theory of Mr. Gray.

By accident? But Mourinho said he did it on purpose. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
There is no question that he doesn't need to wear it, but I'm not sure if that can be blamed for the dip in his performances over the last couple of years. It may be a part of it, because he was immense in his first couple of seasons, but I just don't think it would have THAT big an effect.

It's all down to the mental part of it though I feel, if he started to play without it again, it would take him a few games or maybe quite a few. But as soon as he realised that he was fine after making a save without it on, I'm pretty sure his confidence would start to rise.

The guy was told if he gets another serious knock to the head he may die, now I think that is a perfectly good reason for him to wear the head gear. His mental state is definitely not the same as he isn't as confident coming for crosses but nothing will be able to eradicate that unless he takes another head knock and gets back up I wouldn't want to see him take one though just incase.
No but that's the point FB, the doctors went back on that, his skull is now stronger than it was before he took the knee to the head and fractured it, the heeling process was more than successful.

Being told you will die if it happens again is pretty hard to go back on. I'm not surprised Cech continues to use it, you never know what could happen.

I think Andy Gray is talking out of his backside when he thinks the scrum cap is like a comfort blanket. This is not just someones career on the line if they get a bang to the head... it's their life! I don't think there is any reason why he should stop wearing it. It's better to be safe than sorry, especially when we are talking about someones skull. The only people who know how "strong" Cechs skull is, are his specialist and Cech himself. So to throw stuff around on TV saying that Cechs skull is 'stronger' than ever is just plain stupid

I agree, there are more important things in life than being in top form. If I was in his situation I would keep it. I wouldn't risk my life for the sake of performing better.
