Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has agreed a two-year contract extension that will see him remain at Anfield until at least 2013.
The 28-year-old is yet to put pen to paper on the new agreement, but is expected to sign in the next few days.
The news will be a further boost for Liverpool fans after manager Rafael Benitez signed a new five-year deal last month.
"This is fantastic news for the club," Benitez told the club's website.
"Steven has once again shown his commitment and it was an easy deal to agree. As soon as we offered him the option he said yes.
"There were no problems at all. He wants to stay for life.
"This deal sends out another clear message that we are moving forward as a club. To know we have a player of Steven's quality with us for many more years is a great boost for the club and the fans.
"He is clearly a player who inspires those around him and even though he is playing very well at the moment, I still think his best years are ahead of him."
Very happy with this for obvious reasons, he is the rock of our team.

Hot on the heels of Steven Gerrard agreeing terms on a new two-year contract, Dutchman Kuyt has followed suit on a two-year extension.
The new deal will keep Kuyt at Anfield until the summer of 2012 as Rafa Benitez continues his drive of securing his top players on longer contracts.
Kuyt joined Liverpool from Feyenoord in the summer of 2006 and he has established himself as a big fans' favourite with his work ethic.
The 28-year-old, who was a prolific goalscorer in Holland, has been converted into a right-sided winger in the last few seasons with Benitez preferring to play Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard in attack.
Benitez was delighted to sort out the wide man's future and feels news of contract extensions for Kuyt and Gerrard will provide a boost for the club.
"This is another great piece of news for the club," Benitez told the club's official website.
"Dirk had one year left on his contract and we were keen for him to stay. He is a player with great quality who has a big part to play in our future. We are delighted to have reached an agreement.
"To have announced new deals for Steven and Dirk on the same day shows how hard everyone is working and that we are moving forward quickly as a club.
"These are very positive messages and I am very happy."

I don't hold it against him because in 2004 we weren't just not winning anything, we weren't coming close and he is too good of a player to be at a club not coming close to winning things. He decided to stay after we won the CL and rightly so.
Now he is figuritevly speaking, at the club for life, in 4 years he will be 32 and then I can't see him leaving.
