Okay so a very simple question. We all know that many past and present Liverpool players supported Everton as a child the prime example would be that both our captain and vice captain did. Now that they play for Liverpool, do they still support Everton?
I don't just mean it is this instance I mean for everyone, such as Steve Bruce as another example. He is well known for being a Newcastle fan, but when he was playing for Man United, in the title race with Newcastle, do you think he was agreeing with Keegan on his "I'd love it" speech?

You can only support one team, and while a player who grew up supporting another team may always have a soft spot for that team and hope they do well, they wouldn't want it to be at the expense of the team they play for, which becomes the team they support and care about over any other.

The players may not agree on some things with the team they have always supported. But it's not like they have to only support one team and one team only. Say you were playing on I dunno...Arsenal, and you were playing the team you grew up with, lets say Wigan. You obviously want the team your playing for to win, but it's not like you're going to throw the team you have supported all your life underneath a bus just because you are on a different team.

Yes well I would agree with that, I don't think Gerrard and Carra would want to see Everton relegated, but having a soft spot for a team and supporting them is a different thing, so that's a no from Tom.

Lol, it's not a no from me. I'm saying you can support another team while you play on a different team. Like I said you want to have the team you play on do the best out of the two, but that doesn't mean you can't support the other team in other fixtures they play in.

Of course you can support more than one team. Obviousally, your first priority is your employer but when your team isnt involved, why cant a player support someone else? Robbie Keane plays for Spurs, that doesnt change the fact that he supports Liverpool. Richards plays for City, he supports Arsenal. I support Arsenal, when tyey are not playing i support West brom. Why is it any different for a player to supprt another team?

But if you play hard against the team you support like any other team, why would it matter? I would agree if a player went easy on the team they support, but if you are a professional you will play hard no matter the team you play.

Well it's just my opinion that if Gerrard really still supported Everton that he wouldn't celebrate so much when scoring against them, it's a contribution, you don't have to celebrate, yet the last time, he ran most of the length of the pitch with his arms aloft.
