Sunderland will make an appeal against George McCartney's red card during Saturday's defeat at Manchester City.
The 27-year-old was sent off in the 15th minute for pulling back Shaun Wright-Phillips.
The City winger was chasing a long ball when the incident occurred and referee Steve Tanner consulted with his assistant before making the decision.
"He made slight contact but Wright-Phillips would not have got the ball," Black Cats boss Ricky Sbragia said.
"I'm dumfounded as to why he was sent off. A long debate ensued and the linesman made the decision," Sbragia added after his side's 1-0 defeat. <!-- E BO -->
I could see this being wiped out but then again i can see it standing too.
Tough one to call.

Basically, Wright-Phillps had skinned McCartney and was going through and all McCartney did was put a hand on his shoulder and there was a small tug but nothing malicious, Wright-Phillips stayed on his feet and just waved his arms a bit.
At best it was a yellow card.

Plus SWP wasn't getting there. The ball was practically in the keeper's hands already.
Well Dmac I have no bias here do I? Anti-City I guess you could argue but I don't care about them enough to be biased.

Well it could be just because it's one of your players but I really can't see any ref giving a red just for that.
