Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney were sent off as Manchester United's title hopes took another shock blow at Fulham.
Scholes saw red after 18 minutes for handling Bobby Zamora's header, Danny Murphy dispatching the penalty.
And as United pressed for a second-half equaliser, Zoltan Gera struck on the break with a superb control and finish.
Seconds later, Rooney threw the ball away in frustration to earn a second booking on a miserable day for United, whose lead could be cut to one point.
Luka Modric capped a man-of-the-match display with a superb goal as Tottenham dealt Chelsea's title bid a huge blow with a deserved win at White Hart Lane.
The Croatian grabbed the winner on 50 minutes, drilling Aaron Lennon's cross into the corner from 18 yards.
It might have been more had Robbie Keane not been denied three times.
But Spurs keeper Heurelho Gomes also played a part, saving brilliantly from John Terry before Alex headed on to the bar as the hosts desperately held on.
The three points were no more than Tottenham deserved from a full-blooded and frantic London derby, but Chelsea will be kicking themselves as their first defeat under Guus Hiddink saw them miss
Nicklas Bendtner, Abou Diaby and Samir Nasri secured victory for Arsenal to leave Newcastle in the relegation zone.
Arsenal took the lead when Bendtner headed home Andrey Arshavin's free-kick while Obafemi Martins volleyed home from 12-yards a minute later.
The Gunners were back in front when Diaby smashed home from 18-yards with Nasri sealing the win soon after.
Earlier Manuel Almunia had saved Martins first-half penalty after he had brought down Newcastle's Ryan Taylor.
A Keith Andrews goal earned Blackburn a deserved share of the spoils against a resolute West Ham after Mark Noble had given the visitors the lead.
Two goals from Peter Crouch helped relegation-threatened Portsmouth to a priceless victory over Champions League hopefuls Everton at Fratton Park.
Danny Shittu's late own goal enabled relegation-threatened West Brom grab a barely deserved point against Bolton.
Ryan Shawcross' 84th-minute winner saw Stoke move out of the relegation zone after victory over fellow strugglers Middlesbrough at the Britannia Stadium.

Lol at scholes, what a moron, someone should tell him he's not playing Volleyball. Anyway, the table just got real interesting. If Pool win tomorrow there would be a one point difference, although Man Utd have a game in hand. Newcastle played really well so they will pick up points if they continue to play like they did today. However, once Steven Taylor got hurt they fell apart. All four games came in a space of ten minutes. Imagine switching over for ten minutes and missing it all.

Some moron from Salford just made an idiot out of himself on You're on Sky Sports, obviously upset. He said that Liverpool have tough fixtures left and will drop a lot of points, the host pointed out that we have a lot of home games and a run of weak teams, bar Arsenal and Spurs.

Im waiting for Tommy to say it was an accidantal handball and that they were the better side despite the fact that Fulham could have won by four or five.

Lol, one Manchester United fan I was talking to on MSN said that Rooney shouldn't have got carded for throwing the ball because it was in the "Heat of the moment".

I'm watching the highlights again now and if Rooney doesnt get an extra game suspension or something for his reaction then its a joke. Swearing at the ref for the world to see (Which is supposed to be a yellow card to begin with) and then taking it out on the corner flag. Scholes on the other hand showed how to be a professional by accepting it and walking off without arguement.

I'm watching it on Sky Sports right now which is more or less the full game, I liked how Scholes walked off, yes he didn't argue which you can respect but watching him walk away that slowly with his head down was hilarious.
