Manchester United keeper Edwin van der Sar has turned down a request from Dutch manager Bert van Marwijk to come out of international retirement.

Van der Sar, 38, did agree to a similar request in October 2008 and played in wins over Iceland and Norway.

But, with Van Marwijk again hit by a keeper injury crisis, Van der Sar has refused this time around.

"I knew beforehand what the answer would be, but I called him anyway," Van Marwijk told a Dutch newspaper.

Van der Sar quit the international set-up after Euro 2008 and is the most capped Dutch footballer of all time with 130 appearances.
Can't really blame the guy, going back into the International side would more than likely shorten his playing career.

Yeah I'd do the same. Also, 99% of the time, a player's not going to change their mind when they've already said they're retiring.

I guess it depends on what its for. If its just for some Friendly's then i'd probably say no aswell, but if it was important and they had no other decent options, then why not? He's still playing at the highest level so its not like he wouldnt be able for it.

Well if he wants to play club football for as long as he can and he has already retired from international not once, but twice then I see no reason he would accept it no matter what for.
