I'm kind of taking this idea from what Baseball does, which is that they have series of games with a certain team. Of course the EPL/BPL whatever you want to call it wouldn't do it day after day like Baseball does, but maybe within a month or even two months, then they would perhaps get like 6 points for winning the series, which would help the winning team greatly. Have the series be 5 games or something, so you wouldn't need to play EVERY game if a team wins 3 in a row. Every team would get one thing of series in the season, so everyone gets the chance of getting the 6 points. It would really help the teams in the relegation zone also, as they have 6 pointers at the end of the season. For the pairing of the teams, maybe it should be whoever was below you last season, like 1st against 2nd, 3rd against 4th, ect, so you are facing a team of relatively your skill level. I know this would never happen, but would you like to see it implemented in the season?
I would actually love to see this, which is why I made the thread. I think it would add another dimension to how you plan things out. The argument can be made of getting fatigued, but meh, like I said it would be great for the lower level teams to get a boost in the league. I was just typing out base thoughts really, so I'm sure some of you have better ideas of having this be more fluent and such.

Re: Should There Be a "Series" in the Premier League?
In short, no.
It works in some sports but football needs to be left alone as its perfect as it is with maybe the inclusion of video replays.
It works for baseball because the players aren't running around constantly for 90 minutes so playing games every day would be draining on the players and would make the matches bad to watch because the players wouldn't be at their best.

I don't fully understand either but you seem like a stereotypical American saying ''yeah soccer's alright but wouldn't it be better if...*insert idea from an American sport here*''. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
Doesn't sound like something which would work in football. One of the problems is that people in power are constantly trying to think of ways to change the game. Obviously some changes need to be made and football needs to evolve with the times, but there is nothing wrong with the current format.

Re: Should There Be a "Series" in the Premier League?
Well in Baseball over here teams go through a series of games with each other, I don't know really how it works with them, as I don't watch baseball, so I made up my own ideas in this thread for it. Which apparently are horrible >.>

Re: Should There Be a "Series" in the Premier League?
Sorry Deuce, I'm with the majority here. The current football calender is packed as it is. To add a 'series' against another team wouldn't be good logistically.
The only way I could see something like this working, is if they were to implement it in a european competition. Maybe it could work if they revamped the UEFA Cup/Europa League, to something like this.
Re: Should There Be a "Series" in the Premier League?
A big game loses its glamour if played too often...look at Chelsea vs Liverpool that year they played like 6 times, When these are occasions that happen 2/3 times a season they make the occasion more special. For that and quite a few other reasons the idea is a no from me mate.
Re: Should There Be a "Series" in the Premier League?
No that is the point you made yourself, when you have played so many times already, the cup feel is taken out a little bit and it is just like... "Oh again?".
