Valencia have confirmed they have held talks with Manchester City over the transfer of striker David Villa.
The 27-year-old was a key member of the Spain squad that triumphed at Euro 2008 and is Valencia's most valuable asset.
The Spanish side are in financial trouble and have conceded they may have to sell Villa to ease their concerns.
But vice-president Fernando Gomez told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser that City had not made an offer for a player who would cost a "significant amount".
When Gomez was asked if Valencia chiefs had met with two representatives from Manchester City regarding the sale of Villa, he added: "Yes, it's true but they didn't make us an any offer.
"The president Vicente Soriano asked for a significant amount and they didn't agree."
A bigger team REALLY needs to get in before Man City... seriously.

Best finisher in the world bar none. If City get him (along with some other good signings of course) they could challenge for the Champions League places next season easily.
Hopefully we make a move. He's better than Tevez.

We have lure power with his international partner who along side him won EURO 2008 setting up a lot for him to get the golden boot.

Having Torres there could definitely sway him though, and with Villa, you really would be a serious threat. I would rather City got him than you, at least they will take time to become contenders, even with the addition of a finisher of Villa's quality.
What about Valencia's other players? I heard there is going to be a serious firesale a la Juventus a few years ago. Someone has to get Silva surely.

Why would you laugh? Why would it matter if we got outbid but they accepted both bids to let him decide? City obviously have a lot more money than we do.

Villa is having himself another helluva season with Valencia. I like Los Che and would prefer to see Villa stay there, but their financial situation may not allow it. It would be interesting to see him in the Prem, though I'm not entirely convinced he would adapt. It would be cooler to see him pair up with Torres at Liverpool than follow the money to Citeh.
