The number 7 shirt or jersey if you will is iconic is the history of Liverpool FC after gracing the backs of great players such as Peter Beardsley, Kenny Dalglish and Kevin Keegan and it is no secret that if the number is open at the club it is first come first serve with players dying to wear the number but maybe it's just suspicion but we seem to have a problem.
The last two players at the club to wear the number 7 are were both widely regarded as huge signings for the club with very high expectations on their shoulders, with the number 7 only adding to it.
Harry Kewell - Leeds United to Liverpool - £5m
Robbie Keane - Tottenham to Liverpool - £18m
Don't be fooled by the transfer fee for Kewell because at the time it was regarded as a real bargain. The numer 7 gracing the backs of both of these players shirts seem to be a huge factor of their quick downfall, in Keane's case, very quick. It has now come to be known as the shirt curse.
If the next player who has the number 7 flops as badly as these two I say that we retire the number to preserve at least a little honour to the number worn by the greats.
...and I know I will now get ripped apart for being over-supersticious, but thoughts?

That is overly superstitious, yes. Numbers should only be retired as a tribute to somebody, but even then I don't think it is necessary, because some players deserve the honour of wearing a shirt worn by past greats.
Our number 7 shirt has a great history. I am sure you are aware of that....
George Best
Bryan Robson
Eric Cantona
David Beckham
Cristiano Ronaldo
Not bad.
