Gunners agree Arshavin fee
Arsenal have struck a deal with Zenit St Petersburg for Andrei Arshavin, according to the Russian club, but a deal is still some way from being concluded.

The Gunners have been locked in talks with Zenit for some time over the services of the 27-year-old Russia international, who shone at Euro 2008.
Zenit have not revealed the figure Arsenal have bid for the club's long-serving player, although they claim the fee is the 'real market value of the player'.
Personal demands
Arshavin, who interested Spanish giants Barcelona last summer, is now discussing personal terms with Arsene Wenger's side, but Zenit say his lofty demands are currently outside Arsenal's budget.
"The fundamental understanding over the transfer of the player is achieved between the clubs," read a statement on Zenit's official website.
"At the moment the basic obstacle in realisation of the transaction is Andrei Arshavin's personal requirements."

People have been raving about him since Euro 2008, but he only had 2 good games. Admittedly I have not seen much of him outside that tournament. Would be good to see him in England.

But although I dislike Arsenal, I just want to see what he can do in a major league.
I am a bit sceptical that he has only become well known at 27 though. I hadn't heard of him until the last FM, then he made an impact for Russia during Euro 2008 when he returned for those 2 games before they capitulated against an admittedly special Spain side.

He was good for the Russian league for awhile. Since 2001, he's been a regular starter on for one of the biggest clubs in Russia. So was he was hardly nobody prior to the past eighteen months or so. He just really elevated his game and became a true standout. If he had gone from complete zero to quality player, that would be a bit more odd.
I'm a little iffy on the move. He could do very well, as his style likely fits in with the Gunners moreso than any other Prem club. But I see him taking awhile to fit in, and that's never a good thing with a big money purchase.
One thing you have to give Wenger is that he is a patient man, if it takes Arshavin a season to fit in at any prem club he can be glad that it's under Wenger.
