Aston Villa have confirmed they have agreed a £3.5m fee with Wigan for England striker Emile Heskey.

Heskey, 31, had said he would decide on his future at the end of the season, when his current contract expires.

But talks between Villa and Wigan began on Thursday, and BBC Five Live's Pat Murphy said he expected a quick resolution to negotiations.

"I understand the proposed deal is well advanced and may be finalised on Friday," he said.

Murphy added that Heskey was a good fit for Villa, who are managed by his former Leicester boss Martin O'Neill.

"It makes sense for the player, who has re-established himself as England's first-choice target man and whose contract with Wigan runs out this summer.
With Carew and Agbonlahor I'm wondering why Villa need Heskey... but I would just rather we happy he isn't coming to Anfield than question it.

Well they need a squad if they are going to challenge for a Champions League place. They have looked a little short at times with injuries. This will help them to put out a strong XI consistently while giving players a rest. I can't imagine Heskey and Carew playing together though, I imagine it will be one or the other.

I dunno, rotation I guess. Carew has been unavailable in some games. It would certainly be harsh on him if Heskey simply took over as first choice.

Carew has been out for at leats 6 weeks, and is supposed to come back soon, but now Young is out for at least 3 weeks. Im glad they added depth, I was curious as to why they havent done anything.
