The Instant Classic

We all love and respect classic metal bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Miaden, Judas Priest, Metallica, etc. but what modern metal bands are really catching your eye?


There are definately a few:

SOAD:

I know they are currently on hiatus but this band are probably the most obvious when it comes to recent metal which is just great. Songs like "Chop Suey", "Toxicity", "B.Y.O.B" and "F*ck The System" are all adrenaline pumping metal to its finest. Serj said that they still are good friends and not to count out a reunion of the band which would be amazing.

Godsmack:

Not many have heard of this band but IMO these guys are liek the modern day Metallica. They have brilliant drum fills and great guitar riffs along with amazing vocals. If you have not heard this band i suggest you check them out and listen to the song "I Stand Alone" and "Greed".

Avenged Sevenfold:

Well obviously these guys would have to be up there. Probably the most established metal band of the past year as success guoes and they just eep on getting better. The Rev's drum work is amazing and Synyster Gates just makes the yuitar work even better. Also Zach is brilliant but IMo the stand out would have to be M. Shadows, his vocals just fit perfect with there music.

Scars On Broadway:

There not huge at the moment but Damon from SOAD knows how to get a band. Besides his hobo look they definately got some adrenaline pumping songs that everyone should check out!

Trivium : Great band. Their album The Crusade was awesome. Great riffs, solos, vocals, everything is pretty badass about this band.

Children of Bodom: Another great band, I love the keyboarding in their songs, the solos are awesome, and so are the vocals.

It's funny, because 3 of the 4 you mention as in the past have released an album in the last 2 years.

Killswitch Engage:
Man, these guys are fucking awesome. Some great riffs, screaming and epic vocals, as well as some great live work I've heard. Definitely one to watch in the future.

Bullet For My Valentine:
Dubbed by some places as the new wave as British metal. Same as Killswitch, and recently won British band of the year I think in Kerrang. Doesn't matter if you like them or not, they are definitely on the rise as well.

Atreyu: Awesome band with a lot of variety. Not as good as A7X, but very good.

Shadows Fall: A kickass band. So many good songs and just all around kick ass.

All That Remains: Just kickass.

IMO, The Crusade was just terrible.

- Killswitch Engage
- Slipknot

Killswitch Engage are pretty good. All 3 albums I have are enjoyable. Trivium and Avenged Sevenfold both suck in my opinion.

Umm.... I'm struggling.

If Slipknot count as a modern metal band then I like them. The problem is that only one of their albums could be considered great imo.
