Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has had his say on the state of the music biz and in no uncertain terms blames the labels: "Why would you blame (people who download music)? Half the fucking albums that are out they are shit... I don't download, but at the same time, I don't buy new music 'cause it all sucks. Okay, there's a handful of bands that I buy, but other than that, I just buy old shit because old shit is good.
He further went on, "People wanna blame the decline of album sales on downloading, I think it's actually the record companies' fault... I think it's the quality of the product. If record companies would stop giving any fucking mook on the street with a fringe a record deal or their own record label, maybe you would sell more fucking albums, dipshits."

Maybe Corey has to think about our economy being in the shitter as a whole...hmm...that could possibly cause problems for the music industry. Why waste money buying CDs when things like gas and food prices are rising. When it's fairly easy to find any CD you want on the Internet buying CDs is pretty much unessential right about now. The economy gets better so does the music industry.
Not to mention, wouldn't his band fall underneath that category of not worth buying?

Depends on your taste, but at least they are not generic like the bands he is talking about.
I don't think its just about the economy. I don't know about over there, but here cds cost about £15... thats like over 20 dollars. They are just horribly overpriced, so if you can download them for free why not?
What I meant was that he is right that most bands suck.
Well them being that high priced is all about the economy. I mean, America's is in the shitter so obviously the music business is going to suffer. Especially because it's been suffering for awhile. People see that they can get the same quality without buying it, so why buy it? Personally, I buy I CD if I happen to really enjoy it. A lot of CD I enjoy, but not really enjoy and see as a good investment. Not to mention, most of the places wouldn't have the CDs I want to begin with. I think Corey's answer might be just part of a bigger reason, but it's not the main reason. Bands get signed for a reason, because they have fan support and people will come out to see them and buy their merchandise. Merchandising a band is the future, people got to realize that and make more shirts and stuff for their band. They seem to be selling like hot cakes.
The Slipknot stab was just a stab Tom, it's cool if you like them...I was just joking.

Can't stand slipknot besides 2 or 3 songs. Stone sour is just so much more appealing to the ears. But I have to go with what Nicky said and a lil of what Tom said. The economy is shit with gas prices being high, unemployment and what not here in America. Why would I want to pay around $15-$20 for a CD when chances are I am only going to want a few songs off of it anyways when I can easily save me that money and use it for something useful like gas to get to and from work and get my needs? I can easily get that want for free.

A lot of new Slipknot is very Stone Sour anyway lol.
I can see why people would prefer Stone Sour. I like both.
I think I may prefer Stone Sour over Slipknot, just for the fact Stone Sour lyrics seem more like a real message. Slipknot just seemed to go for whatever for the longest time, although I do have to admit that Slipknot's newest CD sounds more Stone Sour-ish then the previous one. Although, the first Stone Sour CD sounds more Slipknot-ish. If that wasn't confusing enough.
