Does American Idol work?

Or are all of us just watching because Simon says funny rude things to people that can't sing?

What I mean is.. nobody has captured america post-Idol except Kelly Clarkson and that's because she was the first winner and also a cute little girl with no skeletons at all.. just a wholesome young lady.

But then again, so was Underwood and she hasn't done anything.

I'm beginning to think nobody will ever do anything from this show except Kelly.. So what's the deal? Are these people just not talented or does it even matter?

I guess the real question is.. Will America ever get sick of Simon?

I only watch it for the initial auditions.

After that it gets boring to me.

I love seeing Simon rip apart the people who don't realize they can't sing.

I just don't get it past that I guess.. The show still gets a huge rating every week, millions of people vote on this week after week, and then when the albums come out people couldn't care less..

It doesn't add up for me. :blitz:

I think the majority of their audience is teenage girls.

At least it is around this area.

Is this series 4 in American then? We have a couple of acts (Will Young and Girls Aloud) that have good domestic pop careers going on here from this and similar programmes. Most of them have flopped over time as acts though.

These types of show will have their day in the sun and peole will be bored of them eventually. At the moment they're still fresh enough though.

Every Idol winner has put on out a very succesful first album to my knowledge. They don't have much staying power past that, but generally I would still consider that succesful. I don't think the winners need to have Britney Spears-esque careers for the show to be considered succesful.

American Idol seems like a good place where semi-normal people can have a wild stab at being a star. For that, the idea is cool. I mean, Will Young and Kelly Clarkson aren't exactly super-sexy people. Sure, they have a fellowing and all but normally I think a lot of us can admit they aren't attractive enough for television.

I find the show completely mindless and nearly everything that is wrong with the planet.

I watch it every week. No, just kidding. I don't think I've ever seen more then a few minutes of it.
