Re: 50 Best TV Comedies -- Ever

No way The Simpsons is better than Seinfeld. Sure it's the longest running sitcom, but Seinfeld was the best TV show ever, and by far.

I Love Lucy should be higher, IMO. So should Scrubs.

And how the hell is the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air not on the list? Probably the most popular sitcom of the '90s after Seinfeld and Friends.

Family Matters and Full House at the least deserve honorable mentions as well.

I think AOL really screwed up with this list.

Friends and Frasier should be 1&2, no contest, this list saddens me to my very soul.

Everybody Loves Raymond shouldn't be anywhere near that list.

Re: 50 Best TV Comedies -- Ever

I think Family Matters and Full House, while appealing to young teens, really is about as far from funny as its gets when you are an adult.

I freely admit I watched just about every episode of Full House growing up as well. I just think the demographic is so small that it shouldnt be on this list.

I also think its crazy that 30Rock made it all the way up to 20 in just a couple years. People are so in love with Tina Fey right now that she could do just about anything right now. Granted I absolutely LOVE that show but its not even the top comedy on tv right now.

How I Met Your Mother is easily one of the funniest shows on television as well as My Name is Earl.

I am a crazy tv buff (as many of you already know)

Here is my quick notes on these shows

50. Everybody loves Raymond - should be way higher on this list. My wife and I call ourselves The Barones because we are so much like Ray and Debra.
49. Newhart - loved it as a kid
48. Nightcourt - also loved this show as a kid
47. Family Guy - should be higher. great comedy, but its gotta be your type of humor to really enjoy.
46. The Jeffersons - Never really watched
45. Hogan's Heroes - Hated this friggin show. HATED it.
44. Laverne and Sherley - Liked it as a kid and I like everyone else, tried Pepsi and Milk. Haroooooop.
43. The Golden Girls - Fuck you. This show sucks. But probably appeals to the 40-70 female demo.
42. Malcolm in the Middle- Funny until about season 3
41. Gilligan's Island - Terrible show
40. Scrubs - I think its hilarious when I watch it, but should probably swap places with Raymond
39. Green Acres - Never seen it
38. Taxi - GREAT GREAT show and should be in the top 10.
37. WKRP in Cincinnati - Good show probably right where it belongs
36. Arrested Development - Take this off the list. Terrible
35. Sanford and Son - Red Foxx freaked me out as a kid. Didn't like
34. Family Ties - Great 80's show. This and the Cosby Show ruled the 80's with good reason
33. The Dick Van Dyke Show - Never seen it
32. Will and Grace - See Malcolm in the Middle
31. Welcome Back Kotter - Good show, not overly funny though. Too high on the list
30. Married...With Children - This show changed TV forever. It was considered scandelous at the time. I loved it and Kelly Bundy for many many years. Looking back, its not that funny. But at the time it was legendary
29. Happy Days - No maam. Move it off this list.
28. Maude - Maude? Really? No thanks
27. Mork and Mindy - Nanoo Nanoo. I was too young to appreciate Robin Williams in his cocaine induced best.
26. Soap - Never even heard of it to be honest
25. Murphy Brown - Never saw one episode. No comment
24. Barney Miller - See above
23. The Brady Bunch - GET THE FUCK OUT
22. Good Times - Not good times at all
21. Sex and the City - Isn't this show like a dramaedy? My wifes favorite show ever. Had its moments of laughter, but overall I can't stand it.
20. 30 Rock - I was suprised at the time when I first looked at it, but now I think its about right seeing the Brady Bunch near it.
19. The Odd Couple - Too old for me to know much about
18. Curb Your Enthusiasm - Funny ass shit.
17. Get Smart - Too old
16. South Park - Good stuff. Classic really. Changed tv as well in the 90's.
15. Frasier - Is this a fucking joke?
14. The Office - Sweet. This show is friggin hilarious indeed
13. The Bob Newhart Show - Was this the hotel/inn one? I always get them mixed up. Funny though.
12. The Larry Sanders Show - Never seen it
11. The Honeymooners - OVERRATED, but probably changed tv back then.
10. Friends - Great show that provides many a laughs for men and women. Should probably be top 5.
9. I Love Lucy - No Maam
8. Roseanne - Great show until about season 5.
7. The Cosby Show - Number 2 in my opinion. I love this show. Got a little cheesy when Olivia showed up and all the random people in the house, but originally priceless.
6. M*A*S*H - Most hated show of all times.
5. Cheers - Number 3 on my personal list. Great, legendary, perfect show.
4. The Mary Tyler Moore Show - Never seen it.
3. All in the Family - Racists love this show. I do not.
2. Seinfeld - Number 1 easily. No question. Not even close. Well documented as my favorite show of all times.
1. The Simpsons - Meh. Has its moments. But I dont even snicker at this show anymore. It was great 10 years ago when you got stoned with your buddies and what not.

Re: 50 Best TV Comedies -- Ever

I would definitely not even have the Simpsons in the top 5, nor the top 10 either. Seinfeld would be number one in my book, too.

Glad to see the Office and Scrubs up there on the list, but HELL NO should 30 rock be at #20. All in the Family was hilarious, even to me as a kid. That and Married..with Children really were "different" type of sitcoms, and I enjoyed them both.

DD, how is MASH the most hated show of all times? I assume you mean hated the most by you?

Did you guys know that MASH's series finale is the most watched program of all time? Some 80 million people tuned in to see the final epsiode of that..whew.

I beleive (as far as sitcoms go) Cheers' series finale and Seinfelds rank in as #2 and #3 most watched, respectively.

Re: 50 Best TV Comedies -- Ever

Yes Jayman. I meant solely by me.

When I was younger the Boston Bruins were everything to me and they were on the same channel as M*A*S*H*. Every time the game was over that "Dooo dooo dooo do do do." theme would come on. Most of the time I would be falling asleep or waking up to MASH. I just never found it funny and it always meant the Bruins game was over for the night.

I think its mainly a subconscious thing, but I just cringe whenever I hear that theme music.

Re: 50 Best TV Comedies -- Ever

My Name Is Earl's pretty underrated. It's one of the funniest comedies since it's debut and it didn't make the list and the Golden Girls did? I'm also shocked that Chappelle's Show didn't make the list as well. Don't trust the amateurs who done these rankings. Here's my 10 best comedies (in no order):

1. M*A*S*H
2. In Living Color
3. Married... With Children
4. That 70's Show
5. My Name Is Earl
6. Chappelle's Show
7. Seinfeld
8. South Park
9. All in the Family
10. Futurama

Re: 50 Best TV Comedies -- Ever

I think Chapelle Show and In Living Color qualify more as variety shows rather than sitcoms/comedys.

I never said anything about them being funny. This isn't a list of funniest sitcoms. I mean that they were both more popular and more successful than many of the shows on the list. I think that labeling a sitcom as the "best" is qualitative, and more than just how funny it was should be taken into consideration. (e.g. I don't think I ever laughed while watching M.A.S.H., not even once, yet I agree that it should be on the list solely due to how popular it was and how long it lasted).
