Favourite rappers?

Here are mine...

Tupac Shakur - Simply the greatest rapper ever. Tupac raps about stuff that means something, like getting out of the ghetto rather than glorifying it. But Tupac still kept his gangsta image and was a brilliant live performer. A good voice for rap, very intelligent and with quick, sophisticated raps, Tupac was the man. RIP Makalevi. MFs picks: Hail Mary, Hit 'Em Up, California Love

Snoop Dogg - What I like about Snoop is the fact his voice is much different to most rappers. It isn't a low growl, he's unique and has great flow. He appeals to real fans as well as the commercial market. MFs picks: Sensual Seduction, Just Dippin', Ain't No Fun

N.W.A. - Arguably the best rap group in history comprising Eazy E, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, Ice Cube and Yella. The N.W.A. were the breakthrough act for many gangsta rappers to make it big. They were innovators. MFs picks: F*ck Tha Police, Straight Outta Compton, Express Yourself

Dr. Dre - Dre is the man, he was the guy who made all the best beats of the 90s and early 00s. Dre may not be the best rapper but his beats are awesome and there's no doubt people like Snoop and 50 wouldn't be as popular without him backing them up. MFs picks: The Next Episode, Still D.R.E., XXplosive

Biggie Smalls - Biggie was massive in the 90s and it's such a shame he got caught up in the coastal rivalry which ultimately ended his life, RIP. Biggie had smooth flow and often built up rhymes on top of another numerous times which was very impressive. Destined to become bigger than anyone else in rap if he'd of lived past 97... MFs picks: Juicy, Mo Money Mo Problems, Hypnotize

Kanye West - Kanye has smooth flow and some awesome tracks. He's one of few current rappers who I listen to. I like the way Kanye doesn't talk up the hood like a lot of rappers and raps about things that matter in his tracks like family. Kanye may not be a legend of rap just yet but he definitly will be one day. MFs picks: Family Business, Good Life, All Falls Down

Lupe Fiasco - Lupe's raps are very clear and meaningful which makes a great change from a lot of the stuff out there. He's got flow and a lot of great beats too. I'm surprised it took so long for him to go mainstream (with Superstar) because he's had so many top quality tracks on is previous album. The future of rap if he stays around longer than he claims. MFs picks: Hurt Me Soul, Hip Hip Saved My Life, Tilted

Other Mentions - DMX, Eminem, Jay Z, 50 Cent and Nas.

Re: Favourite rappers?

Dr. Dre: Rap wouldn't be where it is today without him, nothing else needs to be said.

Eminem: Marshall Mathers LP is simply my favourite rap album of all time. His recent stuff is awful though. Of course he's over-rated though.

Ice Cube: Proved he could do it without Dre when he left N.W.A. and is one of the best lyric writer of rap of all time.

KRS-One: The second greatest rapper to ever hold a mic. He's never reached his peak since the 90s though.

Rakim: So far ahead of his time, he is the greatest emcee ever in my opinion. If any rapper after him says he hasn't been influenced by Rakim in some way, they're lying.

Edit:

Oh and Tupac is the most over-rated rapper of all time in my opinion

Tech N9ne, Lupe, and Snoop are the only rappers I can stand these days. Kanye West is garbage. I still listen to some old school though.

That might be true, but he was already the highest selling and most popular rap artist on the planet. His All Eyez on Me went something like 9x Platinum.

I don't think Pac is overrated at all. If you listen to his songs and his lyrics, nobody was better at expressing life in the ghetto. Most of his songs had a solid message. I'd much rather listen to that then 15 songs of "I'm going to kill you nigga!" or "Look at all the money I gets" or "Look at all dem hoes"

Re: Favourite rappers?

I also thought Pac was overrated, but I respect the depth of his lyrics. I just thought he had a bad voice and an even worse flow. Basically, I thought he was all substance, no style, which I guess is better than the opposite

My favorites are Biggie, Jay-Z, Talib Kweli, Common, Mos Def, Outkast, the Roots, Redman, Ghostface, Pharoahe Monch, Rakim...there's probably more, but thats what i was able to come up with off the top of my head.

Re: Favourite rappers?

Grew up with 90's Dre, Snoop, Eminem ofcourse, but I admit when Nelly's "Country Grammar" hit stores, it became my most listened to cd of all time. I can still sit down and listen to every word and NONE of it feels old or overplayed to me.
I loved old Nelly, Murphy Lee and the St. Lunatics.
Now? Now I'd rather be listening to rock/punk music, but I still listen to beats from Ludacris, Jay-Z, YoungBuck (only person worth mentioning from G-Unit, even tho' I know he's out but hasn't came out with anything since), SwollenMembers (more Hip-Hop but still amazing), Lupe, Kanye, and for the past lil' while I'm all about Lil' Wayne .. check out BIRDMAN ft. Lil' Wayne - I Run This [Best track out there now !!!]

PS: Where's all the love for the original, the man who made the world acknowledge rap/hip-hop .. I'm talkin', THE FreshPrince !!

Remember the Spyda, dude ..
