The Doctor is coming to Sci Fi

The cable network announced on Thursday (Jan. 12) that the latest installment of the BBC's "Doctor Who" will be coming to the Sci Fi Channel in March. The deal between Sci Fi and BBC Worldwide Americas gives Sci Fi the first run rights for series one with an option for series two.

This version of the long-running sci-fi classic feature Christopher Eccleston as the time traveling Doctor, who battles aliens and monsters and other beasties with the help of his companion Rose Tyler (Billie Piper).

This 13-part, 60-minute series premiered on BBC One in March of 2005 to rave reviews and massive ratings. Eccleston has, it should be noted, already taken the revolving door out of the franchise, with David Tennant taking over at the latest Doctor Who after this series.
"With its rich history of imaginative storytelling, 'Doctor Who' is a true sci-fi classic," says Thomas P. Vitale, a Sci Fi senior vice president. "We're excited to add the show to our lineup."

"Doctor Who" will air on Friday nights at 9 p.m. on Sci Fi. The acquisition has caused BBC Video to delay the release of the show's DVD from February until July 4, 2006.

I've never actually seen an episode of this long running franchise, but our UK posters are probably familiar with it.

Watch this series american friends. It's very, very tounge in cheek but as a sci-fi fan I can' recommend it more. Plus (if ur intrested) Joe Cool has posted some pictures of the skirt (Billie Piper) in Hollywood Hotties and she's worth an episode or two by herself!

Is it anything like the original Dr. Who K Jay?

Very much so, it's really gone back to it's roots of being low-budget but creative. As I pointed out sometimes it can be tounge in cheek but at other times the writing can be enough to put you into a mood without having to do big-money SPX. And as a real bonus Ecclestone is amazing, in wrestling terms he plays a true 'tweener. He's like a bona-fide good-guy with a real dark side to himself almost a la batman. Really, just watch it you wont be wasting ur time.
