The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter tells Blender magazine: "'Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. 'Gangsta rap' didn't exist."

Keys, 27, said she's read several Black Panther autobiographies and wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck "to symbolize strength, power and killing 'em dead," according to an interview in the magazine's May issue, on newsstands Tuesday.

Another of her theories: The bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled "by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing."

Keys' AK-47 jewelry came as a surprise to her mother, who is quoted as telling Blender: "She wears what? That doesn't sound like Alicia." Keys' publicist, Theola Borden, said Keys was on vacation and unavailable for comment.

Though she's known for her romantic tunes, she told Blender that she wants to write more political songs. If black leaders such as the late Black Panther Huey Newton "had the outlets our musicians have today, it'd be global. I have to figure out a way to do it myself," she said.

I dont see whats so crazy about that outside of the AK47, its pretty much clear to anyone with eyes and ears that the Media fueled Pac/Biggie.

Exactly. Kill Tupac but let clowns like Ferrakan and Jesse Jackson live? Seems counterproductive, to say the least.

The 2Pac and Biggie murders WERE investagated as if they didnt want to find their killers to be fair, and the fued was fueled originally by the media........certainly not the government.

If anything Mary Hart is more reponsible than Bill Clinton.

Tupac was also spot on with much of what he preached as where guys like Rev. Jackson and so on are too overly racist in their approach.

The way their cases were handled is reprehensible, certainly..

The media fuels anything controversial. It's the way they work and the public buys into it. I can't say Pac and Biggie loved one another though, certainly not.. but Pac wasn't the same at the time either, he was trying to get away from suge and start his own label but he also believed that those diss records are what he needed to do to please the ones who were close to him at the time.

Gangsta Rap was very real.. It was young black males making records about what they saw in the streets on a day to day basis. The record companies took advantage of them. Did they want blacks to kill one another? That might be a stretch..

Nevertheless, Alicia is free to say what she wants.. because I want to do her.
