I! personally think any kind of graphic rape scene isn't needed. Subtle 8-10 second rape scenes are fine as long as they increase value in the story and ONLY if they increase value in the story.
The reason why I'm asking is because on the extended version of Rob Zombies Halloween, there is a pretty graphic rape scene that wasn't needed whatsoever. Just want to get your views on rape in movies.

I am the opposite. If they are not graphic then they shouldn't be in a movie because then it doesn't give the true reality of what rape is and comes across as some normal sex scene. If they are graphic and show the reality of rape and it is an important part of the movies plot and not some random rape tossed into some movie that has nothing to do with it then it is fine with me.

Seriously though, they've got their place in mature movies where they're vital to the plot or are reflective of the characters personality. If they don't fit either of those two criteria why put them in there?

i pretty much only see the need for it in movies if its based on a true story and it really happened. otherwise i see no need for someone to write a rape into their story
I think it says an awful lot about censorship in America when rape (and really, sex in general) is still a taboo topic, but we are so desensitized to violence of any kind it doesn't even faze anybody when they read, hear, or see someone brutally murder a family of 5.

Has anyone here seen the film Irreversible? It shows the infamous 'rape seen' shot in real time. Which brings the realism to a whole new level. In that film, I'd say actually showing the violent parts in such a way really adds to the movie. Whereas if they just alluded to the most violent parts, I don't think it would be as effective. Regardless, it's a really good film.
