Steven Spielberg's rep Marvin Levy has debunked rumors that the director is developing a film version of "Mary Poppins".
"I never heard of this and couldn't imagine Steven ever doing a remake of a classic - and a [Walt Disney] classic at that. There's a Broadway show from Disney but nothing involving us in any way" said Levy this weekend to fansite Spielberg Films
All I have to say is thank God!!! This was a disaster waiting to happen if it were true.

If a remake is made then it should still make good box office shouldn't it Joe, bearing in mind the interest in the kiddies film market, and curiosity from those that saw the original.
I remember thinking a few years back the same think about Charlie & The Chocolate Factory and that worked out okay, even though I thought I'd absolutely hate it.
Be interesting to see who is cast and whether or not it is still set in London? The casting (as with all films really, but particularly this one) will be extremely important.

I think with C&TC my one bug was with the oompah loompahs (well one of them CGI'd x1000) which was lame along with the new songs which also were poor.
Thinking of that put's me in mind of the songs for Poppins? Stick with the old ones, jazz up the old ones or just do new ones??? Do they "street" up the whole Poppins thing to make it more modern, or do they play it very old fashioned and go for the very young kids market.
I think it could succeed but they have some very tough choices to make.

To be fair, though, I believe I'm right in thinking all the songs were, lyrically, taken straight from the book, and Roald Dahl was never really a mean singer/songwriter. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
