Paris Hilton Arrested for Drunk Driving!

Paris Hilton has been arrested for drink-driving in Hollywood after being stopped by police for driving erratically.

The hotel heiress was pulled over by police at around 12.30am on Thursday and booked at the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Station.

The star - who claims she had only had one margarita - was later charged after she recorded 0.8 percent on a blood alcohol test, which is the minimum level for driving under the influence under Californian law.

The hotel heiress told a US radio show that the fruity cocktail, and the fact that she hadn't eaten all day, may have pushed her over the limit.

Paris, 25, revealed she had spent the day shooting her new music video before heading to a restaurant and then attending an LA charity event.

In a live telephone interview with American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, she said: "I had one margarita. I was starving because I had not eaten all day."

She told the radio DJ: "It's pretty fast so maybe I was speeding a little bit. Then I got pulled over."

Hilton added that she was on her way to a Hollywood burger bar for a takeout when she was ordered to pull over by police.

She said: "I was on my way to 'In and Out' (fast food restaurant) that was probably three blocks away.

"There was a lot of paparazzi around so I think they were trying to make a statement and they even said, 'you know, there is people watching. We don't want them to think we are giving you special treatment'.

"I totally understand. I was in there 15 minutes and now I'm up again in the morning for work."

Paris - who was actually in the police station for an hour and a half rather than 15 minutes - claimed she had been working non stop trying to finishing the filming of her latest song's new video.

She said she had been spending night and day shooting in the LA cities of Long Beach and Pasadena and before the arrest had finished work at 10pm.

She said: "So then we went and had dinner with my sister and all my girlfriends and then went to this charity evening."

Asked what had happened by Seacrest, she said: "You know what, it was nothing."

Hilton was held in cells until 2am when she was released into the care of her sister Nicky Hilton, her publicist Eliot Mintz and Nicky's boyfriend, Entourage star Kevin Connolly.

When Hilton was stopped she was also driving Rod Stewart's daughter Kimberly Stewart home in her Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. She was pulled over near Selma and Wilcox avenues just before 12.30 am, said Lt. Russell Wong of the LAPD's Hollywood Station.

He said police pulled over the Simple Life star because she was "driving erratically" but officers "did not know who she was "until they approached the car on foot." He added that when she was pulled over and she displayed "objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication."

A field sobriety test was given, and Hilton failed it, Lt Wong said.

At that point, Hilton was arrested and later booked on suspicion of misdemeanor drunken driving at the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Station. After booking, Hilton was released to her sister, Nicky, boyfriend Kevin Connolly and Mintz.

Mintz later said Hilton went home and went to bed, regretted the arrest but had not decided if she would contest the allegation until she spoke with her lawyers.

He defended her actions, saying, it was simply result of "one drink on an empty stomach after a full day's work," adding that "we don't take lightly matters of this nature."

Earlier, the website TMZ reported: "TMZ spoke with Paris as she was driving home from jail, stopping for Parliament Lights cigarettes en route.

"She says she "regrets it occurred," and adds that she has been up for 24 hours, having shot a music video all day. (TMZ had exclusive access to the music video set and our video will be posted in a few hours.)

"Paris says she had nothing to eat and no rest the entire day.

Last November, Paris was in the passenger seat when her then-boyfriend Stavros Niarchos crashed her Bentley into a parked truck outside a Hollywood nightclub then sped away - with passengers Kimberley Stewart and Talan Torriero of MTV's Laguna Beach inside.

Police did not press any charged because officers claimed they arrived too late on the scene to discern who was driving the vehicle.
