On Monday September 4, 2006, "Crocidile Hunter's" Steve Irwin was reported killed by a stingray barb that pierced his chest, whilst filming a documentary off Port Douglas, Queensland.
A Tourism Queensland spokeswoman today said the death was shocking and paid tribute to Irwin's "enormous contribution" to his adopted state.

That is so piss weak. A fucking stingray. It should have been a crocodile or a shark atleast. After all the shit he has been through, a fucking stingray!
I never really liked the man, but I am still saddened by his death. I really feel sorry for his wife and kids.

The stingray killed him because the barb went through his ribcage and pierced his heart, so hes no pussy. That guy was my hero. I wanna be a herpotologist because of him. This really sucks. You got to feel sorry for his wife and his two kids too. Steve Irwin, R.I.P.

on anoter note Well he was great he brought atteintion to the less cuddly animals. But to be fair he has to take some of the blame for his death because he can't keep tempting the animals in to harming him, before long one was going to attack, I just thought it whould have been a much larger and more dangerous animal.

My best memory of Steve is the Saturday mornings my best mate and I used to have in the early 2000s. Hangovers, remains of last night's kebab in hand we would sit and watch Crocodile Hunter then Smackdown every week.
What a loss but crikey, he will have wanted to go out this way for sure, doing what he loves. It was inevitable that it was going to happen at some point and I'm sure Steve knew that better than anyone.
Steve was a great man that made great TV. The man will be greatly missed by a lot of people, i don't think a week went past in my school when we would quote him to piss are teachers of with his trademark 'crikey mate, look at that', RIP steve 'Crocidile Hunter' Irwin
I was a Steve Irwin fan so I was dissapointed when I heard the news. I'm glad it's not being treated as a joke on this forum. Cause thats how it was treated at school today. At least he died doing what he loved though. Even though it was to early. Huge loss to wildlife conservation.
