Johnny Depp is hoping to play the king of pop Michael Jackson in a movie about the troubled singer’s life. The “Sweeney Todd” star was rumored to have modeled himself off of Jackson for his role as Willy Wonka in the 2005 movie ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.’
But Depp believes any similarities to the superstar in his portrayal are purely coincidental, he has said, “A few people have mentioned it, and it kind of took me by surprise. I really didn’t expect that, Michael Jackson was not a sort of ingredient or inspiration for the character at all.”
But he says he would love to take on the special role of playing Jackson in a movie about his life insisting, “There is still time to play him. He might get up to his old tricks again and maybe there will be a TV movie about him!”
Boy, he sure is into the weird roles! He’s also rumored to be considering taking on the role of Pee Wee in the new Pee-Wee’s Playhouse: The Movie.

Not sure a movie on Michael Jackson would be a smart move for Depp. Depends on what is put into the movie I suppose.

From what I heard, they are going to do this movie "I'm Not There" style, where several people are going to portray the live of Michael Jackson in different stages.
Johnny Depp needs to chill, BTW. He's a fantastic actor who tends to pick the wrong movies.

I think a Jackson movie would be stupid to do this soon after his death. i think a true, 100% MJ documentary would be the best thing for Jacksons, and in about 2-3 years start working on the movie.
