The cast or the script?

Which is more important to make a good movie?

Re: The cast or the script?

This is similar to sports in that which is more important, the coach or the players? In the end, it's both. You need coaches to draw up the plays and players to execute them. If you have a great script with shitty actors, it's going to be hard to complete your vision. If you have a shit script with a great actor (see: some of those recent Denzel Washington movies) the man can only do so much to make it believable.

So you think movies like Rocky, or Scarface would have done just as well without their Stallone and Pacino? I seriously can't see that happening.

Re: The cast or the script?

The script is 100% more important. You can have all a-list stars, but if the script is shit then it's pointless. But a good script can make a shit actor seem somewhat competent.

Look at Josh Hartnett in sin city. Dude could barely deliver those lines, but they were badass enough to make it work.

Re: The cast or the script?

Not at all sir. Mind you I haven't seen Black Hawk Down so I can't comment on it.
