Now this has to be one of my all time favorite movies. It combines my two favorite things in a movie. Drugs, and foreign accents. Now I don't encourage drug use, but watching it in movies certainly fascinates me. It always intrigues me. Now without giving too much away this movie contains one of the single weirdest scenes I've ever seen. It involves the worst toilet in Scotland. Lets just say the whole bathroom is beyond disgusting, and is covered in feces. If that wasn't weird enough, he ends up going into the toilet due to him losing drugs he had stored in his ass. I know a long ass weird filled sentence. He ends up going all the way into the toilet, and swimming around in an large body of water clearly on some sort of trip. Pretty intense. If you are on drugs at the time this scene might make you trip out of your mind. Certainly crazy to say the least. Now that is just the beginning of the movie so just imagine an hour and a half of this crazy shit. The actors mostly unknowns to me at the time were so natural, and the movie flowed so smooth that the hour and a half went by before you knew it. The movie presented several characters, that were fully introduced. Which made it interesting see the paths they took, and what obstacles got in their way. That's always a favorite of mine, being able to follow different people, which makes the movie all the more better in most cases. Character development to me is almost as key as a direct plot. That any day could substitute for an actual directive of a movie. This movie was the first time I was introduced to Ewan McGregor who went on to do huge things including being in the second Star Wars trilogy. He plays the main character in the movie, and narrates it. My favorite character in the whole entire movie had to be Robert Carlyle. He stole the show as a lunatic with a short temper who often ended up beating up whoever got in his way. Pretty funny/crazy character, and fun as hell to watch on film. There were several other great performances involved in this film, and it's a must see for mostly everyone. Give it a try you wont be disappointed.
