Heroes
9 pm/ET NBC New
So, who survived the showdown with Sylar and who is up in hero heaven? Season 2 finally arrives with at least a partial answer: The action picks up four months after the face-off in New York, with Claire and the Bennet clan getting as far away as possible by moving to California. But Hiro wins for distance: He landed in feudal Japan, where he runs into his idol and discovers the legends about the man were written with quite a bit of creative license. β
Jeanette Martin How I Met Your Mother
8 pm/ET CBS New
Having ended last season with Ted and Robin's breakup, the third season brings us back to where we began: Ted is unattached, and fans are clueless about who becomes the mother of his children. But the new season looks like it could be βlegend β wait for it β ary,β with two prominent guest stars (Enrique Iglesias and Mandy Moore) in the season premiere. Tonight Robin introduces her Argentinean lover, Gael (Iglesias), and Ted hooks up with a tattooed woman (Moore) after going out to party with Barney. β
Bill Ecklund Chuck
8 pm/ET NBC New
It's the revenge of the nerd in this new series, which expertly amalgamates on-target comedy, action and espionage. The (mis)adventures of computer geek Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi) begin tonight when subliminal government secrets are downloaded into his brain. Unwillingly becoming a vital secret agent, Chuck is drawn into shadowy global spy jinks, and he soon attracts the attention of a curvy CIA superspy (Yvonne Strahovski) and a rough-hewn NSA agent (Adam Baldwin). Watching this zero turn hero is a blast, and the show is so flashy, well spun and fast-paced that it puts many a big-star multiplex movie to shame. β

10 pm/ET CBS New
Being related to Horatio can be murder. His undercover-cop brother, Raymond, was beaten to death, and H's wife, Marisol, was gunned down by a sniper. In tonight's sixth-season premiere, it's revealed that Horatio has a son. Of course, he's on the wrong side of the law. The surprising discovery is made while the CSIs investigate the shooting of a parole officer. Good luck, son. You're going to need it. β
Tim Holland Dancing with the Stars
8 pm/ET ABC New
It sounds like a clumsy first draft for a lame joke: A boxer, a Spice Girl and a Mormon waltz into a ballroom.... But there's nothing funny about the spirit of competition in this blockbuster reality series, which opens its fifth season tonight with 12 contestants. The roster includes the aforementioned Floyd Mayweather Jr., Melanie Brown and Marie Osmond, respectively, as well as Sabrina Bryan, Helio Castroneves, Mark Cuban, Jennie Garth, Josie Maran, Cameron Mathison, Wayne Newton, Albert Reed and Jane Seymour. We'll meet everyone tonight, but the premiere's first round features only the female competitors, while the men strut their stuff in another 90-minute episode tomorrow night (8 pm/ET). β
Joe Friedrich Prison Break
8 pm/ET FOX New
The Company is just nasty β now they've gone and kidnapped both LJ and Sara because they want to get a prisoner named Whistler (Chris Vance) out of Sona. (We have no idea why yet.) So not only does poor Michael have to stay there, he has to find a way to get Whistler out. Michael is clearly the right man for the job, but don't expect him to whistle while he works. β
