Singer and TV presenter Charlotte Church has given birth to a girl at her home in South Wales. It is believed the baby weighed just over 6lb and Church's rugby player boyfriend Gavin Henson was at her side for the birth.
The little girl arrived some time on Thursday evening or Friday morning at the couple's home in St Brides Major, the Vale of Glamorgan.
Church, 21, and Henson, 25, are said to be delighted at their new arrival.
A spokeswoman for Church said: "A baby girl was born sometime on Thursday evening or possibly Friday morning.
"Midwives were present at the home birth."
Henson who was not included in Wales' World Cup squad after failing to recover from an injury on time did not travel with his Osprey's club side for their game against Ulster on Friday night.
My congratulations to young Chazza, I will be going round this afternoon to see the little one, and then I'll take Gav out down the pub to watch England get thrashed by Samoa.
NEW mum Charlotte Church has revealed how she went into labour in B&Q.
Ruby was born 12 days ago and Church recalled how her contractions began in B&Q’s car park.
“He’d accidentally locked me in the car and the alarm was going off, so people were coming out of B&Q, hearing the alarm and looking at the car, and then recognising me,I was just trying to hide but couldn’t – I was just sitting there having contractions! I wanted to go for a meal in the Toby Carvery but the contractions were every five minutes so we came back.” she said
A comical picture is given of Gavin putting bean bags in the pool to make it more comfortable for Charlotte.
He said: “We fell for that one and we tried to submerge them, but it’s polystyrene so we couldn’t push them down.”
The couple considered names such as Renee, Jasmine, Ella, but settled for Ruby Megan.
Charlotte said: “Megan is her middle name after Gavin’s grandmother.
“She’s passed away now but everyone spoke about her with such love.”
The singer described the pain of giving birth as hurting “10 million times more” than expected and that she was adamant on breast feeding. “If there was an anaesthetist there who said, ‘would you like an epidural?’ I would have, You have to be in hospital to have one so I’m glad it wasn’t an option because it made my recovery so much better because you can feel everything when you’re pushing and I think you don’t do yourself as much damage.”
But Charlotte didn’t take too long to get back up and busy. The next morning she was straight into the kitchen.
Gavin said: “You were up the next day cleaning the house, weren’t you?
Doing the dishes and making the dogs their omelette for breakfast. I think you were still high from the gas and air.”
On becoming a mum for the first time, Charlotte said: “I’m really shocked by how I feel. It’s just instant massive amounts of love towards her.”
The couple were asked what traits they hope Ruby Megan will inherit from each of them.
“I really hope she has Charlotte’s smile and intelligence,” said Gavin.
“I hope she has Gavin’s calmness, his sense of humour – which is a bit off the wall but I love it – and everything physically about him because he’s lush,” said the new mum.
And she is in no rush to get her figure back: “I think it’s sad when people get obsessed with all of that. I’m pretty happy with the way I am and I bagged Gavin so I can’t be doing that badly, can I?”
